My friend has a 99 escort zx2. He says if he does his cold air intake and exhaust, not the header, he will add around 30 horsepower. I told him that if he doesn't install a race header, and just does the exhaust, it will do nothing for the power, it'll just make his car loud. Is that true? He also bought the chip thing off ebay that's supposed to add horsepower to the engine by confusing the computer or something like that. I told him it was a gimmick, and he wasted his money. Does it actually work? I have ford by the way, lol Thanks guys

before everyone jumps on the flame-wagon... no, the chip will not add a grip of power. It's a little .5c resistor that can be found at any electronics store. All it will end up doing is causing your car to run rich... which means less gas mileage. Tell your friend to stop reading Super Street and go pick up some books on basic physics and thermo-dynamics. Either that or send him my way... I've got some swampland in Florida I'm sure he'd be interested in.

First off. A race header, intake, and exhaust will MAYBE give him 5-10 whp AT MOST. This topic has been beat to death. When will noobs quit posting this crap? The header does not magically make the intake and exhaust work. The lack of power is derrived from his small displacement economy engine.

In all truthfulness, a ZX2 has some level of potential. I've seen a lot hit high 15's in 5-speed form, and modded-out definitley has 14's capability.

However, this kid needs some help.

the guy must think he owns a v-8 and the only reason i say that is b/c they choke the life out of v-8s with this countries smog regulations thats why adding headers does pick up 30 hp cat-back header back really 5-15 even for me so hes dreaming and the resistor like said tricks the intake air temperature causing the computer to run more advance and fuel supposedly adding more horsepower cost free at my electronics class if i was bored.....

Those cars are slow anyways... A guy from work had one and I smoked his ***....I hit second and had almost a car length on him going into third. I don't see why anyone would buy a domestic car anyways. I mean go look at the list of unreliable cars...I think ford had an average of like 28 out of 100 cars having problems, where Honda is at 9. actually... they made an S/R version of the ZX2 which was just a tuned up version of the base 2.0 engine. it had CAI exhaust and some other minor upgrades, but it was pushing 145 horsepower. the engine has potential. the zetec engine they use is a brilliant engine, infact they use it in racing a lot.

My brother actually has the same exact car, and after adding a custom intake it felt pretty quick. I would gamble to say that those engines have a lot more potential than ours without FI. HOWEVER, he has about 90.000 miles on it now, and the car is going to crap. I dread going on long rides in that thing because it is so loud and uncomfortable. Also he tried to get new springs for it and he was going to get charged $400 because they have to remove the back seat just to install them.

Yea, If you cant tell by my user name, I have a FORD 2000 ZX2 S/R. I like it a lot, just like you like your "tampons." I mean civics. Anyhow, people have different opinions about different cars. Like people say civics are like tampons, every ***** needs one. Then people say Fords suck aka DAQIUN. People think different about different cars, personally I like both civics and zx2s, i just hate the people that add stickers to their car that are brands that they dont even have. This is just my $.02, ZX2 owners are just like Civic owners, we like to do different things to are cars to be un original. so WHATEVER, peace
