S2000 question...

This goes especially to you S2000man. My dad is looking for a good commute car for his 30 minute to drive to his new job. The S2000 is exactly what he's looking for, he loves roadsters. We figure its got what he wants: good gas mileage for a sports car, six speed, and honda reliability. Plus since the whole trip is through Alabama highways and backroads, it would be nice to have such a nice handling car. His major question was to get a hard top or not. He wants to know if the rag top will have enough insulation. Any more input would be greatly appreciated. Also how much did you pay? MSRP is 32,000, just wondering how far down to try and go.

I'm probably gonna put this on an s2000 forum but since i know you guys more i want your input first.

my parents have a toyota convertibul and my sis has a spyder both have cloth tops and let me tell you they suck in winter. you get cold air and lots of noise coming from them and the plexy glass back window is very tacky

i would guess that any cloth type top would be the same. hard tops on s2000's looks so sexy any ways

i'm sure the s2000 is great at keeping the water out in the winter but not perfect. the rubber may get old and start to crack over time causing it to leak. my dad has a Z3 and it never goes out in the rain.
i say you get the hard top for winter months. not only will it help with keeping mother nature out but i think they look mighty sexy.

actually the soft top on the S2000 is flawless. Other than wind noise (which is typical for convertible) it insulates EXTREMELY well. In fact, most people comment something to the effect of "wow your car warms up faster than mine does!"

Which is true. There are NEVER any drafts, no gaps, NOTHING. The soft top seals the car up VERY well.

The only advantage to buying the hard top (which goes on with the soft top down) is that it will cut down on wind noise. It also obviously looks different.

So if he doesn't mind the wind noise with the soft top (which again, it's your typical convertible) then he has no reason to get the hard top for insulation, as the soft top does exceptionally well.

Hard tops look great, but like mentioned, wind noise is probably the only thing you'd lose if you get one. They do look good though, esp. when they match in color or you get a black one...

but then again, you could get a blue softop...

I can agree with S2000man, my bro's 2004 S2K's soft top is very well sealed, road noise is nto that big of a deal either and interior temperature wise is almost the same as my car. get the hardtop only if u want to look better and have a more quiet interior.
