what do you think? WRX vs. STI
what do you think? WRX vs. STI
i have always wanted an STI, but i've been thinking about getting a wrx, and with the money i will save purchase the 285 HP COBB Stage 2 Power Package ($1535.00)
which includes this:
A flat torque curve that gives you consistent and smoother performance without sacrificing reliability or driving quality.
"Our Stage 2 Power Package includes the AccessPORT, our revolutionary hand-held map transportation device, and our ultra-high quality stainless steel turbo-back exhaust system. This package is available with or without a catalytic converter. In testing, the addition of our unique high-flow metallic substrate catalytic converter did not reduce the peak performance of this package."
Package Includes:
AccessPORT
COBB Turbo-Back Exhaust System
Acceleration Data:
0-60 mph : 4.6 seconds
1/4 mile : 13.4 @ 101.5 mph
i will also make other upgrades(suspension, brakes, ect) because i will be saving about $7,000+ over an STI and the best part is i would put a 2.5 RS emblem on it
what do you guys think?

I recommend going to the WRX or WRX Sti forums 1st... from what I know, WRX tranny will not hold too much power, and 1 of the cylinders will run lean on higher RPMs STOCK!

If you can afford the STi get it. It is a better platform to start off with. I would have 2 weeks ago if I couldve afforded it but I got a regular WRX insted. The tranny on the WRX's is a weak link. Most people have been changing out the gear sets on thiers for around 3 grand but the STi's is almost bombproof from what most say. Shop around and see what you can get one for I found a 04 STi on the lot for only 27,000 they were trying to get rid of it because they had 5 2005 STi's on the lot. PM if you want more details on a WRX.

I dont know about 3 ive heard that some have had more, some got denied a warrenty tranny all together because of something simple as a turbo timer. My Suby dealer is actually really cool about mods, pretty much as long as you dont go inside the motor they will cover it. They even sell and install aftermarket parts from other companys than Subaru like HKS and Blitz. Im probably going to be taking mine in soon to have my tranny checked out Ive got a grind and sometimes it wont go into 1st gear and reverse. Im sure they will replace it but I might see how much they can throw a set of RA gears in for. So I guess it just comes down to how cool your dealership is.
This car was dynoed at XX Tuning in CT. It has 308whp at is at it's limits for HP and TQ. The tranny is holding all it can and could break at any time. This is a 02 WRX Perelli package. The weakest link in the WRX is the tranny. Most won't even downshift into 2nd..this one does and has been taken well care of. A WRX motor is good for 325-350 Hp before you blow it up. The tranny won't last long either. I drove this car many times and it's a beast but to get it to this pont my friend spent $20,000 easily.

He smartened up and traded it in for this.....

A stock STi is always good... There are a couple of goodies that you get that you won't be able to get on a WRX. I guess, in the end, if you know what you want to do with it and you're willing to mod it a lot, get the WRX, but you will be happy with an almost stock STi.
