Cavalier growl?

ok lately i've been wondering why do the old cavaliers, like the one in the pic, have a deep exhaust tone compared to normal 4 cylinder cars? is it just bigger engine or what?

v6 2.8 up through 89 and a 3.1 90 on up, my old 92 z24 was a screamer, 5-speed p&p exhaust cold air, ran 15.3.

My winter car is a 98 lumina with the 3.5 it has that low tone i think it sounds like crap i cant wait for spring i miss the vic.

yeah i always thought they were the **** in jr. high but now i look back....*shivers* fugly car. they do sound good which is why i asked. never realized they actually had v6's in them. there are still thousands of them out there. lol people must have a lot of money for their repairs.
