Redline
Redline
Im not sure if this has been addressed by anyone before but i was wondering if anyone else was having the problem. I decided to redline my car today for the first time today in first gear (i usually shift as 6800 if i want it to go hard) and it felt like the car basically shut down until i shifted into second. Im not sure if its like that because its goverened like hell or because it basically doesnt put out anymore power beyond that point. If so im gonna put a upgrade the computer. Any input would be nice
the engine has a rev limiter to keep retards like you from blowing up their engines. if it were not "goverened like hell" as you put it, the engine would be ruined. another reason you don't want your engine to rev any higher is that it doesn't produce any more power beyond the red line.

Your car is a wimpy SOHC (single over head cam) they are generally not good for high revving because one cam controls both intake and exhaust. Your car loses power right after the redline. If you got a chip to extend your rev limiter (stupid) you just increase the chance of blowing your engine without gaining any power.

with the mods that you have... I highly doubt there is much power after 6500RPM. Basically, unless you altered the power/torque band, the D17A1 has max power at 6100 and D17A2 at 6300. After that.... the power just goes down.... some ppl feel shifting at 6500 is a better choice.
there are only a few cars in this world that dont have a dramatic decrease in power as the engine approaches redline..... a basic motor like the Honda D series is not 1 of them.
