headlight exploded!

What's up guys. Last night I was leaving my friends house when he told me to stop because a headlight was out. I thought he was f'n w/ me cause I just said how i've had the generic HID (blue) bulbs in there forever. It was like three years already. Anyways, sure enough it was blown. So I tried the high beams and it was completely yellow. They worked, but it was weird cause the glass itself is actually blue. The headlamp itself started filling up with smoke. I was like WTF! (they were 80/100 blubs). I went to shut off the high beams when the bulb just went out, so I thought. I get home and look at the headlamp itself, and it's all f'd up. The f'n bulb exploded and got **** all over the custom cleared and painted (EBP to match body color) headlamps. There's all white soot all over the thing and it looks like ****. I've now gotta get two new headlights cause it bothers the hell outta me. I put the factory bulbs back in both, and they work fine. No wires were burnt or anything. Not sure what sytle of headlights and/or bulbs to get next time. Be careful w/ these ricer bulbs, the entire headlight is f'd. Looks like an older mustang headlight tha'ts all oxidized.

yeah I bought some cheap brand from the honda dealer and I heard a loud pop while driving. Then I got home and busted out the mag light and there was blue glass all ove the inside.

Stick with a good name brand!

I later got these tyc's from the dealer when they had a clearence sale because they were rebuilding the performance shop:

Also as for bulbs, I know they sell them auto zone and most people will probably be hating but my buddy has the sylvania silverstars in his and they are actually a pretty bright bulb.

Their alright, I need aim them
and see if I need brighter bulbs. I
might go with piaa or silver star lights.

one light fogged up once in the rain
and recently here in socal it has been rain for almost three weesk straigth
and they have not fogged up again.
Plus in the back, their are tubes to let out heat and moister.

With the headlamp swap you go from a H4 bulb to a H1

^ thanks man. I spend soooo much time on those factory lights. first opened them up to clear them, and then got bored w/ it and re-opened and re-sealed them again after I painted them. Now I'm not sure what to get.

^thanks, that's alot of help. I wanna see at night. My blue ricer bulbs worked like ****, especially in the rain, etc. I got the OEM style fogs which help slightly, but not sure if I want projectors cause you can't see much w/ them, right? I guess if they're aimed correctly they're not bad, but projectors + ricer lights = shitty vision, right?

don't wanna go back to stock either, unless I could find some on ebay and clear them again myself?

there is a black jdm set on the link I posted above

and if you want form over function get a ION yellow piaa or possible Mtec bulb.

Then rain or fog you can see.

If you want ricer or the high look go with a clear or blueish bulb.

I personally gonna get yellow bulbs when I get the spare cash.

are yellow really yellow? I actually had (BLUE) bulbs, not even generic HID or hyperwhite, pure BLUE. The black JDM is okay, I've got an Eternal blue pearl sedan tho, my ricer tails are split open and painted to match the body color as well. Not sure if i want black for the front or not. the tyc silvers arn't bad either, not chrome tho

after reading threads about projectors, I think I'll get used OEM lights and re-clear/paint myself.

the whole custom headlight thing took probably about 10 hours between removing them twice and opening / clearing / resealing then opening / sand / prime / paint / paint / resealing and re-install for the second time. I don't even wanna deal w/ it to be honest w/ you. my commuter car just **** the bed last week - head gasket at three in the morning - that's another story, but anyways, the civic is my only car now and I have no desire to work on it in the winter
