Check engine light less performance

Does the check engine light on a honda take away power since the car thinks there is a problem would it not let it run as hard, i was wondering because my sister has a 2001 Vr6 Jetta and i was looking threw the manual and it says when the check engine light is on it takes away 10% all power same with my friends 2000 Vw beetle so i was wondering if its the same with the Civics

with the VW, i would take it to a shop or local place like autozone before the dealer gets their hands on it. it can be just a gimme for them to get paid.. but thats just my assumption from expierence

who the hell would run their car hard when check engine light is on? (unless your talking about the malfunction indicator lamp)

it's enough to turn me away from vws anyway. not saying everyone who buys them is a ****, but i can bet 99% of vw owners do not know that it was a company started under the hitler regime during the rebuilding of germany after ww1.

Like gearbox said, some codes esp. the more serious ones will disable things in your engine. I also heard that if you have VTEC it might not work if the engine light is on, depending on the code I guess.

wow someone was starting a car company in the 1920's?!?! hmm...

soichiro honda founded the honda motor company in 1948. when japan was rebuilding from WWII. DOES THAT MEAN WE ARE F'ING ANTI AMERICAN? **** COLLABORATORS? the two are interdependent events, bearing no relevenace to today's cars or company owners.

i have a CEL. it's on all the time. i run my car all the way to the top from time to time. but i did get the light checked out to see what it was, some vacuum pressure crap that the dealer told me would take lots of tests to figure out. tests = $. so saying that flat out, a CEL draws some response from the car sounds like bull.

Good point. To the other dude...It doesn't matter what happened in the past. The VW bug was designed by Ferdinand Porsche, yes of that Porsche. So are you saying he is a **** collaborator and all Porsches suck too? In addition, the Autobahn was commisioned by the 3rd Reich (spelling?) Also, another example would be Mitsubishi, I believe they built the Japanese zeros that bombed pearl harbor and killed countless Americans. Get over it. Its a global economy now. Germany is a beautiful country with some of the greatest engineers in the world. There are probably more ****'s in the U.S. than there are in Germany. Get over it man. Way off topic....me so sorry for contributing to this argument.

If that's the case, you should read a little deeper. Volkswagen wasn't the only one to do that. BMW, Daimler-Benz, VW, Porsche, and the Swiss Banking industry all were wholehearteldy using slave labor in WWII. Same for all the japanese car companies that existed at that time, including Mistubishi heavy industry.

War is a terrible thing, and corporations have always welcomed it as they all profit from it horrendously. Nobody is innocent, and US corporations are still guilty of prejudicial hiring practices and doing the thing thats best for their botom line. Henry Ford was a racist who only gave the worst jobs of stoking the furnaces to black people exclusively.

Your argument is fine, except it applies to more people than VW

Just take the car to Autozone, get a free diagnosic on it, you too civicvtec1ps, fix whatever it said it is if you can and if not just pull your terminals off your battery for about 3 minutes and it'll purge your computer and take that check engine light off.

porsche and hitler collaborated on creating the vw, namely the bug

"The Bug's genesis, as the warped brainchild of Adolf Hitler and designer Ferdinand Porsche, was the first and most infamous dose of irony in the Bug saga. Patton doesn't sugarcoat that bit of history. Indeed, given the amount of archival material culled from VW itself, it seems surprising at first that the company would have even gone along with the project at all.

"They're very split about that, and several years ago they tried to come to terms with this, and commissioned an 800-page book from Dr. Hans Mommsen, who's one of the most respected historians in Germany," Patton says.

"But that was commissioned under the previous CEO, before Dr. Ferdinand Piëch -- who is the grandson of Porsche and the son of the man who was actually in charge of the factory during World War II -- came to power," he continues. "And under him there was much less openness about coming to terms with this legacy. I mean, it's a difficult PR problem when the key force behind your chief product is one of the great mass murderers of the 20th century."
"

Six million jews didnt do anything to be slaughtered. I myself would not drive a vw, based on principle alone. Besides the fact that they are rolling trash when it comes to automotives IMO.

I don't need to check anything.
Race header is causing CEL to be on and i don't mind having little light on gauge cluster.
If i really want to take it off, i can just take off ECU fuse under the hood and no cel for while.
