Just because 3 people you know are having problems doesn't mean that ALL Hyundais are in the same boat.
My CIVIC blew its transmission at just 45K miles...and many other automatic owners are having problems with their transmissions too.
Go to the Vehicle Issues / Problems section on this forum and you tell me that a Honda is perfect.
Do you know how many TSB's there are just for the 7th gen?
Honda isn't perfect, nor is Hyundai.
Of course in a broader sense Honda is closer to perfect than Hyundai is, but you have to give credit when it is deserved.
I can't verify this right now but I remember reading that in some parts of Europe, Hyundai is considered a better product than Honda.
So please, let's not jump to conclusions.
I'm sure all the little kiddies who surf this site now think Hyundai sucks

you need a prove to justify that, and you will have an hard time finding it.

Get the V6 model.... The tranny from a Nissan Sentra sepc-V just happens to bolt right on to the V6, 6speed with a diferential and V6. And yes I know the sec-V is a 4 banger, but yes it has the same bolt patern and input/output axel mechanisms as the V6 tibby.

Over all though, not to bad, considering my uncles brother helped design it
And he was in charge of the first 2 generations of the eclipses. But only did a little bit on the tibby.

Having seen a few of the V6 models run, I'm not too impressed, when it comes to 0-60 and 1/4mi. times they're outclassed by cars w. less horsepower, that cost less and when it comes to cornering same thing, though, they are able in the corners, it would be nice to have a car that performed the way that the way it looked suggested it could.
Hyundai quality is improving steadily, the new Accent is even a recommended buy in this years Lemon Guide, which is a marked improvement, initial quality complains are done and it looks like they're on the road to making a quality product. The only problem is that they're getting lumped w. all the other Korean manufacturers because companies like Kia and Daewoo are dragging down their rep.
My last problem with this car is the name. Toscani? Why would you name a Korean car after a region of Italy? What? Theres no Korean provinces available who's names they could borrow? I'd hate to be the one to break the news to all the Italian in Tuscany..."Hey, guys, Hyundai..um..named a car after where you live..."
I'm waiting for the Hyundai Texas to come out, I can see someone getting shot over that...
-reliability IN THE PAST sucks, so for now it is fair to assume it still does. Nobody knows because its an '05
-styling is still pretty bad, looks like a frog
-interior is less than rental car quality
-there is NO comparison to honda. Honda is among the higest in reliability and resale value. Hyundai, kia and friends are among the lowest. Read the consumer reports.
Oh yeah, level of aftermarket support has absolutely no weight in my consideratino for a car. Just because there is a wealth of aftermarket stuff does not make the car a good one.
All things considered there are too many negatives against Hyundai to ever buy one. If Honda was supposedly like you say it was I wouldn't have bought one back then!

No one has a monopoly on names. If that were true then we couldn't use a lot of the names in the English language, considering most of them are barrowed from other languages. They probably just give it those names, to give the car more of a universal appeal, its just marketing. For example you can wonder why the **** does Acura just gives letters to there cars, instead of real names.
Anyways, hyundai owns kia by the way. They bought out kia a few yrs ago. I think Daewoo sold that was left of there auto business to GM during the ASian financial crisis.
For all the people that say hyundais are POS just cause there a hyundai. Check out this link, its a repost but you see my point.

Notice all the cars in the right column are European. You notice which column that hyundai sonata is. If there similar results in Europe, then yeah hyundai can be consider better quality then some german cars, reliability wise at least. Styling, i agree German cars are superior to all.
I'm not saying hyundai is better then honda. I think honda are better then hyundais styling and reliabilty wise, but i think we should judge manufacturers on there merit and quality of products then just reputation from the past. Things change and others dont stay the same. WWII Japan enemy of US, 2004 Japan best friend of US. See the analogy.

I'm aware nobody has a monopoly on names, my problem is that they're trying to give a cheap, Korean car a name like an expensive Italian car. Why don't they just call it a Murcielago and be done with it? The name should sound nice and what not, but I mean, its a 3000lb, 180HP Korean economy car, not a Testarossa. If you're going to give it such an illustrious name, at least give it performance to match, not just some faux aluminum accents.

^^^ you can just chalk it up to marketing. i doubt any of the people that designed the car had any say in the name. But thats the direction asian cars are tryin to be. There tryin to be more european, mostly in styling hyundai decide to go with the name too.

you need a prove to justify that, and you will have an hard time finding it.

It was before the facelift on this site...pretty old, but I remember it having a link to an article by a reputable publication.
Yeah I know it's hard to find
but I know its out there somewhere.Design wise, yeah Honda is more appealing.
Reliability wise, I can say they aren't that bad.
99% of the Korean people in Korea drive Korean cars...with most lasting into Honda-like territory, and I know because I've lived in Korea.
People in the US only seem to know the horror stories of Hyundai and that's all they have to compare to.
You have to go to Korea and see things from a different perspective.
