anyone else notice a striking similarity between an oh so ricey movie and opening animation on this page? Struck me as pretty lame.
Also whats with the supercharged model only putting out 205 hp and a NA RSX puts out 210 hp? Small price difference....but not much. Still, cobalt is pretty cool even with the lame advertising.

First off, I had an '88 Cavalier Z24. Had 275,000 miles on it before it threw a rod, and that only happened because I pushed it to 134mph on a stock motor. Would've been swapped with a different motor, had it all planned out, then my adopted father took a sledgehammer to the car because he found out that I moved in with my birth father after I was kicked out of my apartment. There was nothing left of the car, so it was scrapped. The only problem with it other than the thrown rod? The starter went out. I talked to the last owner, who bought it new...no other problems. Never hit the shop except for routine maintanence. And it blew away most imports that I lined up against. KBB price at last check? A little over $900.
Hey Evil One you had an almost bullet engine in the 88 Z24. It was a 2.8 liter V6 and in 1990 they came out with the 3.1 liter..Im talking about a damn 4 cylinder cavalier..The 88 Z24 was Ok my sister had one brand new and you know what..after a year it was falling apart on her..Man the rattles that thing had was crazy..She had the top of the line one with the digital dash

Whoever said its a ground up design is blind as a bat...Its a Cavalier with a new name ..Ok so the parts are not interchangable maybe but look at the thing.. OOOOOOO Ecotec engine Im shaking in my boots.. Wait and see in a few years how good the ecotec is...
Remember how much praise the Quad4 got when it came out???It turned out to be such a nightmare.I still know some mechanics who still have Post traumatic stress disorder having worked on those POS

Its just lazy to slap on a supercharger instead of squeezing out more from the existing engines displacement. I definately have no gripes about the ecotec. It is much, much better than the crap GM has produced in the past. The whole supercharger thing is just not the approach I would take. And to reply to someon else's post about the torque. Good point, it does have a very significant torque advantage. Just two different takes on engine design. I just can't stand that GM has other supercharged engines such as the 3.8L V6 in the grand prix that are only putting out 260. Give me a break, that displacement with forced induction is capable of much more. Each manufacturer has their reasons (most likely cost), it was just an opinion. I am very much considering the cobalt as a contender when it comes time to trade the civic in.
Well, GM has these guys called lawyers... and they pay them lots of money to tell the engineers they can't put smaller pulleys on the superchargers. It honestly boils down to the fact that besides the Corvette, CTS-V the late F-bodies and the GTO, GM flat out doesn't make cars with tremendous fun factors. Its just the way they are. They appeal to the masses. If you think about the majority of people who drive Grand Prixs...Middle aged soccer moms dragging around 2.7 kids in the back seat, yelling and screamng while they're not paying attention. Do you really want that person to be able to stuff it and lay down 350 HP? I sure as hell dont. The ECOTEC can make some numbers... it does put out 170 HP in the G6, so clearly it can pull its own weight. I think you just gotta give it a little time. I don't see too much wrong with strapping a blower to it. Sure its the easy way out... but to pull 200 ft-lbs out of a 2.0L is a one hell of a challenge.
