Gas Mileage..
I have a few questions about getting better gas mileage, because I think my civic might be getting less than 32/34 mpg substancially and it just seems like my car wasn't as fast and jumpy as it used to be, when it came off the lot. What could i do, that would help me increase my gas mileage? or what else could i do that might help put that new car "pick-up" in my used car?

with all common sense out of the way, what are some other ways to get better gas mileage. my tires are always at 35psi, i make sure of it. And i don't think chevron gas will give me better mileage or help my car regain it's original lost pickup.
it really depends on how you drive. every bump on the road, the distance you drive, the weather, the weight your car carries, and little stuff like that all affects your fuel mileage.

i honestly feel a difference when i use mobil 1 synthetic oil over generic oil. car just feels better. i always use mobil gas. keep tires inflated.
i got 39.5 mpg about a month ago. i don't know how lol.

my cicic is a 2004 and I average about 35 MPG I usually keep it at the speed limit, and don't usually drive more than 20 miles per trip. I usually let the car warm up for 3-5 minutes before driving, unless I'm Late. I accelerate fast, but usually drive at the posted limt, I have driven faster, and that's when the mileage drops significantly.
Keep driving on freeways!!! It helps because I had maxed out 400/tank with only 2 gallons left in the tank and it depends the weight within your car etc, if you're going to go for 18's which weighs about 20 lbs, I recommend that you should get CF or racing front seats, CF hood, and fenders to even out the weight of the car. I don't really know exactly but its my theory to take off some weight when gaining some.

How come not one person said check your air filter??? that will cause loss in HP, and fuel mileage. That would be your best bet! If it is new, I would check your spark plugs, how many miles on your car, have you done any maintenance?

"Might be getting less than 32/34 mpg" my question is how much less? Unless you check your milage everytime you fill up, and drive exactly the same way, your milage will vary as much as 5 plus or minus mpg. Depending on where you live its possible that you're getting "winter gas" which gives you a bit less fuel milage. If your averaging 30 mpg or more over 5 tankfulls, then I'd say nothing is wrong with your car.
yea i got the same problem...i have an 2004 civic coupe, got it in march...just couple of months, but ive seen a dramatic gas mileage drop in the past 2-3 months or so. i got 10,000 miles on my car already...yea that's alot but i have changed my oil every five thousand miles. uhm... i got two 12inch sub's in the back, prob weight about 100lbs(without amp)? and i had gotten my revolution muffler tip installed about 2 months ago... i dont know why my gas mileage been getting bad... i prob average about 20 miles per gal or maybe even worst...im serious !
why am i losing my gas milage ! i want my gas mileage just to be liked it did before
. oh and does tire pressure really make a big difference?
-thx

I get around 32... Which is a little less than what I get during warmer weather, but I do mixed highway and city driving.
Keep the revs low, don't accelerate frequently, use the cruise control (if you have one), and use a fuel cleaner every once in a while. I stick one in half way between oil changes and the gas-mileage goes up by about 1 or 2 and the car responds better.

I been worring about this too, I just put back on the cold air intake (I also have header) full up my tank and got 310 when it was empty. Testing it this week too. Later I am going to make it back into short ram (aem two piece cold air) and test it again.
I get 35-40 MPG consistently, and I have probably close to 400-500 lbs of stereo equipment in my car. Tires, airpressure, air filter, oilchanges...all that makes a difference. Are you putting in regular or super gas? Make sure you are only using regular!
well uhm thx for the help, i guess. i saw one guy post that he has an cold air intake and and headers and is still geting 34mpg...don't if you fix up ur car, you lose gas mileage? huh. well, im gonna check my air pressure from my tires tommrw. don't know wat eles i can do from letting my car eating up gas dramaticly...oh and my car is weird...while driving on low gas..the light turns on but as i continue driving..the gas meter goes up a lil by lil aha weird... but still I want my car to be like it use too (where i can put 5 dallors on an empty tank and the gas meter goes up half way) ahahha....i live in la..where we get like 2 bucks a gal. shiz...sorry if it sounds like im being a lil girl about gas...but im a teenager, not to mention a broke teenager at that!

i got my 04 about a yr ago when they first came out. I started at about 28mpg, then it when up to about 30mpg. After the break in period, i just to gun it and i still got 28mpg. I drive kinda like a granny now, keep my rpm's 2k-3k and i get 33-35mpg. I got a little higher mileage when i had my aem sri in there, around 33-38mpg. This is with an auto and my car now has 30k on it.
The air filter and tire pressure can be huge factor in mpg, that everyone just mentioned. If you have a new car, i noticed my mpg kept going up until about the 10k mark. Seems like the car fully broken in at around 10k. I remember someone said that the d17's perform better once you break them in for a bit. I was getting 28mpg when my tire psi was about 28. When i inflated it to 35 i got back in the 30's again. Then again i do a lot of highway driving, i would say 80% is highway. City driving kills every cars mpg.

I seem to get 29.5 every time now. I do have rims, and an intake. I'm sure that effects it quite a bit. I'm about to take my wheels off for the winter, hopefully that will help

yeah, I used to get like 4-425. I can get about 350-375 now. that is about 10 gallons though, so not too bad. I have 88,000 miles on my car, too. I had a CAI, took that off like 2 weeks ago. I only have a catback exhaust on now, and 17" rims. Also about 75lbs of stereo equip. Car is more responsive than when I bought it (or maybe I learned to shift very well) So I get between 27-36 mpg. It all depends on how hard I drive. Usually somewhere around 32 mpg. I think I need to change my stock air filter, though, should help big time.
during the summer i was hitting 38mpg easily. after tire rotation, oil change and tire adjustment, i got 40mpg. i got 40mpg with ac running and with the trunk full. drove for about 400 miles going 75mph. that was by far the best ive gotten. i have an ex sedan civic with auto. friend with a manual got 41mpg, but he was giong 50mph for a long time. how ever recently ive been getting 30-33mpg. im guess its the fuel mixture of winter fuel?
