Because it's cool to see a delorean with something more than 130 hp. Come on, I think the nostalgia, cool and pimp factor were what they were going for. Not exactly quarter mile times.

By the way...supercars.net weighed in the delorean at 2840 lbs...that's around the same weight as an RX-8 and significantly lighter than a Z....hardly a pig by today's standards.
