Who likes sliding in the rain?!
Damn! So today as i was coming back to work after my lunch hour I was crossing an intersection and some STUPID aS$ lady pulled out RIGHt in front of me. I slammed the brakes but it was no use cuz it just started raining and she was so close...so i pulled the wheel hard to the right to try and go around her back but then I started to slide side ways so I pulled the wheel to the left to straighten out and I BARELY miss hitting her. What a dumb as$!! i was hella shaken afterward 'cuz its like the first "almost" accident i've been in.
Well anyways I was just wondering how many of you guys throw your cars around turns in the rain? I always used to do it when i was younger and I think it helped me out in this situation.I knew how my car was going to react to my turns and the wet ground. Plus that, its fun - who says you cant drift in a civi? lol

I slid once... It scared the crap outta me too. I tried to go somewhere and my mom yells we're going to walmart when I was making a right turn in the rain. We just exited from the highway so I was going fairly fast. I totally forgot and I had to slow down and turn the wheel and the car started slipping. Good thing the ABS kicked in because I would have had an unfriendly encounter w/ the sidewalk curb if it didn't... My heart skipped a beat or two.

And you dont need it to be wet out either... FWD just oversteers for different reasons then RWD, and No I don't call it drifting, and I don't drift (why would I want to find the slowest way through a corner?)

^cuz its more fun to slide through it than just to go fast around it.
and nah it doesn't need to be wet to slide but it makes coming outta the turn a lot more smooth.
and, uhm, how is it the slowest way around the turn? sure doesn't seem that slow on NFS underground, lol, thats the only way.

on my old stock tires i did. i had just rotated my tire, the front were essentially bald, but i switched them to the back so my rear could slide a little. on the day my falkens came in, i was having fun doing 180s in my neighborhood haha.
yeah, when it snows or ice over, get to a huge parking lot that empty movie theaters are really good at 6am. and slide ur *** around. you will learn how the car handles in bad conditions and when u really need to slow down. also what to do if u wanna control the car.
damn its raining like a **** here where im at i found a court by some abandon buildings and did some 360 i had hella fun then tried to slide around some turns this was at 10 pm and no one was out so i would not hit anyone

I love finding an empty parking lot when it rains or ices over and doing some crazy James Bond style driving. For the road when it rains, getting rid of the stock tires for better wet traction rated tires was the best thing I ever did for safety.

try sliding in rain @70mph. i did, and the countersteer was a bit too much. say hello to sliding down a 40ft embankment (no damage!?).
or how bout in slush/snow at 50+mph? that one ended on a fence (5k damage). and once again, my countersteer was a little too much.
i don't want to try it again.
edit: after reading this i thought i should point out neither of these situations was on purpose.

Check your tire PSI... you'd be amazed what an LB or two can do for handling and anti-hydroplaning..

i think snow would scare me. probably cuz it never ever ever snows here so i've never driven in it. I took a corner real fast and sharp over gravel in my friends old jetta one time and it was nuts i literally just sat there and waited for us to stop - breaks didn't work for some reason and i didn't mean to lose control so i wasn't ready for it. i imagine it would be the same bcuz in rain you at least have some traction as opposed to rain/gravel

i was once going too fast on an onramp for a freeway in the snow and gave it too much gas and the car completely went sideways at around 40 mph and landed in the grass. no damage luckily though.

my best friend was driving his 1966 mustang down the freeway in heavy rain (driving fast like an idiot of course), doing 80 mph. he hydroplaned and spun around 180 degrees and slid backwards and scraped the passenger side of the car along the center divider of the freeway. luckily the freeway was empty.
i hate it when it rains my truck turns into the worst handling vehicle you ever could imagine in the rain... with the light back end racing stall torque converter, shift kit and over 400 lbs of torque at around 2k rpm its just a slide fest (does do donuts easy) cant wait for my second winter
once last year i had to drive from riceburners house after an ice storm started in her and no matter what i did it just wasnt safe to use the gas i had to let the idle take me home on many of the back roads
