first image is mandrel bent pipes. press bent is the second image. mandrel bent pipes are the same size the whole way on the inside, press bent pipes arent and can restrict flow. mandrel costs more $

Rep Power: 341 they put the pipe in an assembly of a couple wheels, and it will bend around the 1 wheel while the other wheel keeps the pipe moving through... theres several ways to get those smooth bends. some pipes you have to heat up before you put them in one of those wheels. also you can just heat up a pipe and bend it across something round and it will be smooth just the same

Rep Power: 341 theres also high dollar machines that will bend a pipe perfectly even in sharp turns... mandrel bending just means bending a pipe smoothly without kinks

Rep Power: 254 Crush & mandrel bent have the same basics. They both use use a bending die(wheel) and the tube is pushed around it. Mandrel bending however has a mandrel (usually a cylindrical axle, spindle, or arbor inserted into a hole in a piece of work to support it during machining) inserted into the tube to make sure there are no wrinkles.
Typical 3 ball mandrel.
