Emissions Help
Hey guys,
My commuter car - 91 corolla won't pass emissions. Here in MA, they
do a detailed test on the dyno, various speeds, etc. The only part of the emissions is the NOx or NO2, can't remember. I don't wanna buy a new converter, it's like $100 and the car has 200K on it. Just trying to get through another winter w/o using the vic. It's failed many times, keep getting Reject stickers, but just got a ticket for it again. Have any of you tried the "guarenteed to pass" stuff at autozone for about 10$?
Thanks guys

here in ma, the stickers are a bitch, I'm sick of working on that pos, but it saves my civic mileage and wear and tear. I wish the "guarenteed to pass" stuff would work

If NOX is high, the engine is running too hot. NOX goes up with temp. A few things that help emission tests on old engines: Fresh oil, try 20-50. New plugs, cap, rotor and wires. clean filters. Yes, try a good gas additive. For the NOX, try a colder thermostat.
If all else fails, you'll HAVE to change the cat.

Thanks man, that's exactly what I was looking for. it is the NOX, I looked on my paperwork. It has new oil, I'm gonna dump the gas treatment into it and see what I can do. You're right about temp, I though by running it on the highway would help last time, but the NOX was way higher. Thanks man
