Gas Milage
Gas Milage
Well quick question....
while I was breaking my car in I was getting about 285Miles per tank...and then after getting to about 6000 miles....I started getting about 340-350Miles per tank....I installed my intake and I got 260Miles per tank for the first tank and im at 287Miles and I have to get gas prolly tommarow....I was just curious how many tanks until the gas adjusts and how bad should it?...is it? going to effect my gas milage...I drive mostly the same as before, I've always punched my car even with an intake or without...thats the only way our cars move :-)

Yeah take the miles you went from previous fillup and divide by how many gallons you pump in. That's the right way. Oh and the ecu should adjust fuel curves after a single tank of gas max.
ok heres the deal. DONT GET AN INTAKE OR EXHAUST!!!!! i did the same thing i got both and i regret the hell out of it. You will probably get less mileage per tank, i typically get about 320 with both an Injen sri and a magnaflow catback exhaust system. I wish to god that i had not gotten either, it would be another $600 in the bank that i need for college. your car is going to be slow as **** no matter what unless you go big with it and get a supercharger and/or nitrous. just save your money man. If you can return that intake of yours, thats my suggestion.
I was actually going to ask about this the other day but i had forgot, it seems when cruising on the highway i notice a decent difference in how fast the car is using gas if I staying under 3000 (70mph, well, not necessarily on a hill i guess..), there any mechanical logic behind 3000 being a drop off in gas mileage? when i stay under 70, 60-69, i get fantastic mileage on the car, no i/h/e, just stock atm.

3000rpms is the changeover point from low to hi cam profiles (vtec) in the ex model. Vtec uses more fuel when in hi cam mode.
well i usually get at around 350 miles off a tank when shifting at 3500 but i have been trying something for about 2 weeks now and what i have been doing is shifting at 3000 and when i hit 50mph my rpms are cruising at exactly 2000.and time after time if i drive like that i get bewteen 425-450 miles off a tank of gas. it it really does depend on where you keep your rpms at alot! so i think the ideal spot for out cars it 2krpm @ 50mph.
I spent 1425 points to do this.

i always shift between 3.0k and 3,5k. I'm usually able to pull at 375 - 400mi per tank (our tanks are 13.2 gal). I think 2k is wayyyy to soon to shift.. ud have to be on a flat road or going downhill to pull that off and have any power to accelerate.
ive got 17" adr rims and a k&n fipk2 intake.
i heard that if you change your spark plugs you can increase mileage.

no no shift at 3k and cruise at 2k .....its alot like sailing with a yacht..once you get to your fina cruise speed every last rpm make a huge difference...and there is tat sweet spot where you get a good speed right before you start burning more and more fuel and get smaller speed increases and for our cars it is 2k rpm at 50mph.I always try to drive close to that speed when ever i drive for more than a few minutes as traffic dictates.

as my own little experiment, the last tank I drove like grandma would.... shifted at 2K, rarely got up to 3K. ANd BAm, 38MPG mixed. This current tank however.... I've been doing some racing, occasional flooring... just to see what I get. Ppl that get worst MPG after intake is usually b/c they are always stepping on it to make use of that intake.

I once got yes, 15mpg in the city. Only happened once. When my car was newer with aem sri, I got around 28mpg city. Took it off and went down to 25mpg. Now I haven't measured lately with the fipk. Stay out of vtec land.
Eggshell driving will save you gas. Never start cold engines, garage it as soon as you get to home base. Cold engines can get 1 or 2 MPG. Be sure your intake is cold air. Be sure your PCV valve is cleen. Reset your ECU backup power fuse after modding and maintenance. No revving allowed. Use detergent gas like Chevron with techron. Add PTFE to your crankcase. my 334k miles 93 civic dx= 32-50 MPG. average 39.2 MPG and that includes the occasional flooring it. Optimum economy drive is 35-45 MPH for your 5th gear, you barely feed it gas if your alignment is perfect. Conserve momentum on curves by stiffening the chassis with strut bars.
alright so i have a question since this post is gas milage related... i have an 01 ex auto and i always get 250mi until im empty on every tank... racing around at 5krpm or cruisin at 2-3krpm w/o the air conditioning on its all the same..... anybody know whats up w/ that???

new plugs
tire pressure at 32psi
new air filter
oil change
greased lightning fuel cleaner
hyper voltage system/ground wires
Could give you up to 6mpg higher, if not more. Remember our cars run rich in stock form, so doing mods that lean out the a/f ratio will give better mileage. I had the cylinder head port/polish done and gained 5mpg highway. I think the highest now is 38mpg for me after the mods.
