A while ago I heard the D17s can take more of a "beating" than the D16s.

I've been hard on my motor a lot and I've almost always been on top of maintenance. At 65k, it's still good.

And I agree. I believe the tranny would go before the engine would. Especially autotragics.

I feel like that a lot. Hondas don't seem to like hot weather. When night falls, the car performs at it's peak.

It sucks here because of humidity. Always makes the car perform bad, even at night. I was driving around Chicago at night once and man it felt fast. Such a difference it makes when the air is dry and cold.

Sucks for you. I guess there's an advantage being near the coastline. Chitown sounds hot about now.

the engines powerband doesn't increase past redline, no need to rev past 7K.

Yeah that's true, on my crx I can chirp second gear (it's auto) on a slight turn. It does pick up quicker when it's cold tho.

Holy crap man, can't even count that high. I've kinda lately been going only 3/4 on the gas, cuz there isn't really much of a differnce between 3/4th's and WOT. Try it, you'll see. But try this out, it's hard to do but it'll be worth it later. Go a week or two without driving your car hard. Like go just a week lightly on the gas. Then the next week get in your car and tear it up (not literaly!) It'll make your car seem a lil' fast. Only for like the first 5 mins though But anyways i'm WOT daily! I live around 4K! 37K miles an no problems thus far with the engine. Only problem so far was with the tranny. Recall on the 1st and 2nd gear synchro's. 2nd gear grinded when turning right. But anyways the engine is still going strong. I think occasionally reving high keeps the engine in good health, what's everyone elses opinion??

What's everyone's opinion on going 500 miles over 3000 miles on synthetic oil?? Who else uses synthetic? Would regular oil be better? $50 an oil change is killin me.

You can go up to 7500 on synthetic. I change mine between 3-4, though. Closer to 3

You mean going 5000 miles? I go 5000 miles on dealer oil change, I am just going by the owners manual or severe service.

Dont use regular on these engines, (I am not the smartest as to why) I have been told a couple times by mechanics, that because of the material (aluminum or something) that our engine is made from, we are supposed to use synthetic, to keep our engine cooler. Our engines contract with regular motor oil, which can cause some serious issues down the line, synthetic keeps our engine cooler, so there is no contracting. My car runs 10 times better on synthetic anyways. You can go to 7500 miles, wait for your maintenance req. light to come on, than it is time to change. With regular my light would come on at 3000 every time, but synthetic has not turned the light on once, So I change it a little early everytime.

I get synthetic for 29.99, used to pay 50 from another place. You pay more, but it lasts twice as long, so it is worth it to me, if I have no $$$ for a change at 3000

What are you talking about? That maint reqd light is just a simple calculator that lights up every 10,000 miles, it is not a sensor that checks for oil condition. Anyway, Honda designed the engine, by engineers, with extensive testing, so I trust what they wrote in the manual.

The maint req'd DOES NOT come on at 10,000 miles, at least in my car. It has come on 3 times when my engine was knocking from needing an oil change. And the original question, would regular oil be OK instead of synthetic, due to price? I responded, synthetic is better, because of the material, you read it. This is true, why do you think they put synthetic in the manual???? Thank you. I am not questioning any engineer from Honda, because they are a hellofalot smarter than me. I am stating what the manual/sticker under the hood says. Synthetic can last UP TO 7500 miles, I never said wait that long. I change mine at 3-3500 to be safe. You will be safe with 5000 miles, I know this, and would not recommend any longer.
Thank you

Ok i dont know if they wrote synthetic under the hood or in the manual. I have to go home and check. And dont be confused, i am not saying engineers are smarter than you, i was referring to the mechanics you are talking about. And on that light, let me also go home and double check about that light but i am pretty sure that light is just a mileage calculator.
