sorry, i'm too lazy to search,
but first of all, i drive an acura 1.7EL, basically a civic sedan ex....
here's the thing i was wondering, do civic sedan ex's or even coupe ex's have rear disc brakes? because my car has 4 disc brakes, and when i try to look for brake pads and brake rotors...i can't find any rear one's..only front one's....can anyone help me?
thanx

wait a sec. How do you know you have 4 disc brake, when you can't find it???
EX - does not have 4 disc brake. 2 front disc and 2 rear drumb.
only car that has 4 disc brake is the Civic Si.

I think what he is trying to say is that when he went to the auto store they don't have them. I went to Autozone not too long ago and they had 5 different types of front pads, but the rear shoes where not available. They don't even stock the rears. I have a 2002 LX coupe. That's about all I can say.

Hey gtracing, I've done a side-by-side comparison of my EL and my friend's SiR (Si in USA for you Yanks). The rotor and caliper assembly look identical, so while I'm still some time away from my big brake upgrade, I'm of the opinion that an Si(R) rear brake kit will fit the EL's...make sure the rotor is a 4-bolt though. As far as I know the latest SiR's have 5 bolts now, while the earlier EP's had 4's.

You'd be surprised how little most of the dealership partsmonkeys actually do know. I called and asked them but they couldn't confirm. Parts numbers obviously differed, but even some of the EL-Civic shared parts are numbered differently, so you can't say for sure that differing part numbers DOES mean differing parts.

well they're just oem sizes i believe....but there's another brand out there which i can't remember, but you HAVE to have 16" or bigger to fit the calipers....how big are you going? haha did karyn tell you what happened when we tried to race for the first time in a long time? i spanked her a whole car length right off the line, i just "jumped" out 1 whole car length...haha, engine mounts were definitely worth it
gtracing,
please confirm this for me.
I'm in need to replace brake pads all around soon. (rotors are ok at the moment)
Acura OEM pads were quoted C$67 for fronts, C$71 for rears.
From what you were saying, SIR rear pads fit our 1.7 EL's. correct?

Yes that is correct. I am confirming for gtracing because he is my little lovedoll and I know ALL about his fast little 1.7. Trust me the SiR (or american Si) rear brake parts will fit.

well currently i'm suppose to have the world's fastest 1.7EL...supposidly...
haha, el's are only available in canada...i have the fastest 1.7EL in canada, therefore i'm the fastest in the world! hahahahaha sweet title eh?
anyways, yea, the rear brake parts should definitely fit...i haven't installed them yet just cause of the shitty weather we've been having lately, but once i get it on, i'll take pictures and let everyone know my 2cents about them

Get the HO-589 discs for 2002 civic si!
I had the same prob! But solved it when I purchesed HO-589 discs at Jarry auto parts in Montreal. These are the same discs as the 2002 civic SiR uses in the rear, and the pads as well. there is an online catalog which will confirm the EL is the same. Good Luck!

I may need both front / rear.
