Question about parking at UCR
Hey guys,
i was wondering what parking is like at UCR (or any college). should i be worried about my car getting stolen, or broken into, etc.? or is it a pretty safe environment?
also, i paid like 130 (?) for my parking permit which started from July 1st and lasts until June of next year. (my orientation was on July 27th or 28th, and i got the permit online as soon as i got home.) can i try to get my money back for the month of July?
i guess im trying to say that im paying for 27 days that i didnt get to use the permit for, and i was wondering if i can get my money back. lol
thanks,
Greg

damn expensive parking permit. You shouldn't have to worry about it getting broken into unless you have night classes and probably not then. It would just be if you lived in a dorm and left it out in a parking lot. I know my first year a few got broken into. Get an alarm and they will pick another more than likely

Also park near security trucks/cars or even thier stations. i say better to walk and be safe than to walk home when the cars gone.
At least out here, most campuses are reasonably well-lit and patrolled. You're more likely to get hit on a side street than in a campus lot (less people around, less lighting).
As for money back on permits? Every university I've ever been to / worked at has parking *****. They always seem to be repressed little people making up for a lack of something in their sad lives. Follow their idiotic rules to perfection, they'll ticket ya if you don't.
In other words, if you get any $$$ back, you're lucky.
I'm fortunate. After paying $200 a year where I used to attend (and then worked after graduating), the university I now work for only charges $20 per year.

parking permits here at ucla cost $210 perquarter if you live on campus. so quit complaining about it being expensive. in terms of safety. well consider this, riverside is a rundown city. crime is bound to happen. cars do get broken into on college campuses. only advice i can give: dont leave valuables in your car. i wonder which school has the most expensive parking?

well over-here, most break-ins occured at night. The parking lots are pretty crowded during the day and people are constantly passing by. And my parking pass is only about $70. Which I thought was expensive 'till my friend from rice said she paid $210.
i commute so we get a nice break on the parking permit, only like 200 for the year or something like that, probably less i think, but when i went to Ball State for first and second year, the freshman had to park at the stadium lot and people got broken into all the time. gravel lot, why out from campus, asking for trouble. So it depends where you park, just like any place i guess.
I go to Cal State Fullerton and our permits are 144 for the 2004 fall semester
. Last year it was only 99 and to compare, IVC summer permits are only 15!!
Anyways...I have never seen any vandalized or cars that were broken into at my school. Feel pretty safe.

damn I went to the UH campus here and there is nowhere to park. Screw that. I say if your campus is next to the city, then just park on some side street, or in a grocery store parking lot and walk, saves you money.
