Actually the crumbling cars are the best kind of cars to drive in a accident. I actually have a real life example.
My friend use to drive a 2000 mitsubishi eclipse base model. He was going on an exit ramp off the freeway during heavy rains early in spring. The ramp was the kind that curves and unfortunately he hydroplaned going about 60mph as he was slowing to exit. He hydroplaned and skidded into this suv that spin out 30min before him. Anyways when he hit that suv, his whole front bump was gone, hood popped off, fenders flew off, right headlights gone, right wheel gone, front windshield cracked, and the engine was basically destoryed. But after all that he walked away with a bruised ear and his brother walked out with no injuries. I saw pics of his inside cabine, it was perfect. The front console had no damage at all, seats were perfect. He would probably ebay off his seats if they didnt have so many food stains. To be able to hit another car going 60mph and be able to walk away from it, i would take a crumbling car any day. You can make the arguement that mitsubishi is owned by chyshler, but the car was still basically designed by japanese engineers.
As for engineering, i think most people would agree for longevity most people would pick a japanese car. Anybody that can make a car fast and reliable wins the engineering award for me. If you wanna compare styling, i would agree the european styling is superior.
In my personal opinion i think most people buy bimmers and mecedes cars because of the styling and the image they project. Those cars project the image of prestige and wealth. Most japanese cars for most Americans as still associated with economy cars. Thats why toyota and honda created lexus and acura to hide there economy roots for there upper end cars. I dont think most people buy bimmmers and mecedes because they know that car is going to last 200k+ miles or has the fastest engine. They buy it for the looks and to show other people there financially successful.
german cars are not ALL slow...m3 is NOT slow let it race any honda stock on stock it will get raped....also benz AMG 12's 13'z are slow for you guys? Spend a shitload of money trying to get cars in that range these things come STOCK with that speed. For example new M3..13.3 quartermile and datz nothing race that thing on the freeway it will own

civics are designed the same way. Most modern cars are designed so everything crumbles to absorb and push energy away from the passenager cabine. If you look at the cars they use in nascar, whenever the car bumps the wall or another car hits it, the car tends to crumble. Granted there going at a fast speed, but thats also part of there design. There designed for the car to crumble on impact in order to protect the driver.
Johny g i love your car dude....big bmw fan...used to own an e36 myself....great car....cept i had the sedan from 1997...::sigh:: it was still great...anyways compared to VANOS, VTEC and iVtec look like ...well can i put it....vanos=a nice propane grill......VTEC=lighting a fire by rubbing 2 sticks together...honestly what ive observed is: people who buy mercedes (non AMG) either a)arent too consumed with performance and would rather have luxury, status and want to drive an elegant car or B) just genuinely dont like BMW....people buy audi's initially cuz they are cheaper than bmw's but thats not the case anymore, also they buy them cuz they think audi and their all wheel drive system destroy's bmw ....obviously it does not....granted audi makes some good cars but its still a volkswagen rebadged....and well VW is just pure straight out honest junk....such low quality for a german car...IMHO BMW is the perfect blend of performance luxury status and practicallity.....sure it aint cheap..but who said it would be....give me an CSL M3 and show me an RS6 ::evil grin::
VW interior is nice but thats about the only thing I'll give them...and their turbos :-)....but other than that they are assembled in mexico and brazil...so how is that german? VW should be brazilian or mexican...no offense to anyone....anywayz just too many problems my friends all got rid of their cars cept two..1 has a 04 Jetta GLI....other has a 20th Anniversary GTI

Some people have high end cars but are pussies at the wheel.

aren't most of the honda's assembled in the US. Except for the hybrids? I remember i went to a honda lot and tried to find a ex civic or accord that was 100% made and assembled in japan. I couldnt find one. The only ones i found 100% made in japan and assembled were the hybrid cars. I noticed most cars, there engines were made in japan, the trannies made in the US and assembled in the US.
yea there is a honda plant in kentucky.. that's where the hondas are comming from. like here in detroit, i see a very few civics, let alone foreign cars.. when i go to cincinattii ohio, i see alll hondas and acuras.. and my car doesn't stand out the same anymore.

they have one in ohio too. That might be the reason why you see so many honda's in cincinattii. My car was assembled in liberty, Ohio. I think its funny japanese cars assembled in the US and domestic cars assembled in mexico.
hells yea...
caddy cts-v baby umm m3 wut???
how are there all these americans just gonna frown on usdm cars like that
60's and 70's us cars own any other
not to mention that many of our companys are together with some other companys like daimler chrysler ....chrysler motors with mercedes and gm is putting money into mitsubishi actually helping keeping it alive because it has been doing poorly so they are together gm owns saab ford and mazda got a thing goin on and theres many more relationships out there like these so for me the only thing i see wrong with most us cars is there high depreciation value but so what i mean why buy a car if your worried about how much to sell it for later (civics have a pretty low depreciation value its close to mini's)

Its odd that the camry would be assembled in japan and then shipped here, it makes sense for toyota to assemble it in North America since so many of them are sold down here.
Did you guys notice mercedes and cadilac are trying to make modded cars. The 230 kompressor is coming with a supercharger. Everyone is trying to enter the market. I saw a the Cadillac with a hood scopp and flared fenders.
