My paren'ts never had any problems with theirs and did their research before they bought it...
You do know the Mazda Tribute is the Ford Escape right?
I hate Suv's , but I pick the CRV for sure of the 4
I hate SUv's man, gas gobblin, pollutin, status seeking, road hoggin, heavy pieces of ____. But, my Dad had a CRV man. Definately, Honda CRV man!

Do you really need the extra space offered by an SUV? Why not get a wagon or a sedan instead since most of them can actually handle and brake unlike most Stupid Useless Vehicles. Unless you live out in the middle of nowhere, drive offroad often, haul alot of stuff, etc. I doubt you really need an SUV. Don't be another lemming.
My biased 2 cents.

Fraga, my GF bought a outlander about 8 months ago. Its a 2003 and I haven't had a problem yet. Not going to knock the other cars, but the Outlander was a great choice in my eyes. Some say it looks like ****, but they don't have to drive it. I think it looks okay. And as for roominess, it perfect. I'm 6'2" and my GF (sorry fiance), is 5'11". We both fit, with plenty of room to spare. Alot more room than the VIC. We bought it used with 3000 miles for $13 even. Great deal from the guys at the dealer. Just to put out a few facts on the outlander. It a 2.4L, 4 cyl w/ a 4-speed sportronic trans. With the adaptive shift control and clutchless manual shift. VERY FUN!!! As far a liability, well I just don't know!! We haven't had it long enough to pass and judgement, but so far so good. And as for trunk room. I have two 12's in a sealed box and I still have atleast 10 inches to the back door. Go take one for a test drive. I believe they are still offering $100 to those people who test drive a car and then buy another brand. Check em out. You won't be upset!!! Just my opinion. PEACE

Well, we got back from test driving both of them. Very nice I must say, Rav4 was so smooooooooth on the road, soft steering and the outside was nice....however...the CR-V was very clean looking (style wise) and was more stiffer on the road but had considerably more room on the inside. After driving both...we've decided to stick with Honda and either get the LX or EX.
Now...new dillema...my 2001 Civic has one of those Baloon payments at the end of the lease which is at the beginning of December of this year....I think my payoff will be at about 9 grand...SO...what is the best method I should go about trading in my car before that time for the CR-V. I've already talked to a Salesman, and he's given us some ideas...but I want to know if you guys have any different.
Right now he's given us our first offer and we told him we'd get back to him...what do you think...
2003 Honda CR-V LX
13,500 Miles
$17,300 + TTL
He's offered to payoff the remaining payments till December which is about $1185 and basically add that on to the price...

with your lease, are you able to sell it privately 3 months before the lease runs out? I am almost certain that is one of the options with mine, still have to pay off the ballon payment but you keep the profit.
I am telling you, go with the Rav4, bastage rides like a Lexus...
I just drove mine to Cali and back, hella comfortable, with A/C got almost 30 MPG average both ways...
About your car...
See if you can go to one of those places that finds someone to take over payments on your car, even if you are upside down, people will take em...
I dont know how that would work with the baloon thingy but worth a check
