Question turbo or motorcycle

not sure where to post this but ...

i have an 01 lx and its slow. i would like to do something to give it a little more life...that something is a turbo.

i have also wanted to learn to ride a motorcycle...

now...being a poor college kid from Northern VA...i can choose only one. I figure cost will be about the same cuz turbo requires me to upgrade internals, exhaust system, and tranny(auto). my friend has a beginners bike(1992 Honda Rebel) that i can buy for cheap, plus the cost of the gear and insurance.

i know i may get biased answers cuz....this is a civic forum....but give me ur opinions...i get swayed very easily.

oh and if you have a motorcycle...how much do u normally pay for insurance (i got quoted by progressive for 147 a year...i think its for a year). i don't plan on ever gettin a sport bike...i'm a cruiser guy...if i get a bike in the future it will be very loud and lots of chrome
...and for u turbo guys...how much did u pay for everything...if i get turbo i'd like to end up doin 10 psi without messin up my engine. that dezod kit coming next year intrigues me. so just opinions....and i couldn't friggin figure out how to make this a poll....

Those of you who have never ridden really should keep your mouths shut. Anyone who has ridden knows there is no other feeling like it. The closest way for me to describe it is...a feeling of flying, and a feeling of joy, and an adrenaline pumping fear...all in one.

A fast car is a fast car, a turbo civic is a decently quick car, but not FAST. If you're looking for a new experience, get the bike.

thanks guys...
i was kinda leaning towards the bike and was hoping u'all would sway me cuz i really want turbo too...but right now it would be stupid for me to do anything to my daily driver. im also tryin to buy my own place next year, so thats why i can choose only one. i guess turbo will have to wait.

i'll get an expensive bike after i get really comfortable riding...i'm thinking more along the lines of a custom or a chopper.

thats funny, my friend just got into a accident a couple weeks ago on his bike and he's still alive...so is his bike

I can highly vouche for motorcycles, basically any bike you get is gonna be faster than most cars, and if your looking for speed, thats your best choice.

Just make sure to take the MSF (motorcycle saftey foundation) course, you'll learn alot.

Keep the shiney side up

my friend crashed goin over 100...waay over 100 i think..
he skidded over 100 yards...maybe more i can't remember.
but he tried to get up and get back on the bike but the bike was totalled
then he noticed he had a huge gash in his leg...
he went to the hospital and they didn't think he would make it cuz i guess he lost alot of blood.

he recovered fully and he's fine....haven't seen him in a while tho...

I say bike, but NOT the rebel. you'd be better off getting an old Honda SOHC/4. How much are you looking to spend? If you have the money for turbo and upgrades you should have enough to buy a very nice bike.....Suzuki SVs are very decent bikes, fast and can be had for a song.

werd...i want a bike...but...my brother died on one..andmy other friend almost died hitting a deer. pretty shi**ty if you ask me. but do what you will..bikes are tight...i'd still get one...just only after my parents pass away so they don't freak out i guess. otherwise...i say save up for a downpayment on your house/new car. ur daily driver is good for now..get u here n there. then again, i'm gonna go for show ... w/ 3 mods a year.....plus little mods like engine dress up n what not. i say, do you, if u like the bike, go bike...if not....i'd get myself a 1.8t or by that time, prob. a 2.0t. word.

downpayment for a new house is def my first priority...i think i'm done w/ my civic...too expensive for upgrades...even if its just to look pretty.

if i can get a decent beginner's bike...i'll be good for a couple years

but first i gotta do the lessons and see if its for me.

if your poor, getting a bike or turbo isn't ideal. haha. BUT! I was in the same position a while back and i decided to get a bike. Kawasaki Ninja ex 250 is the starter bike i started on didn't even lose any money after selling it back

ive had 4 bikes( gsxr-750 95', gsxr-00', fzr-600-97', and a cbr900RR).... and now im saving for a custom... or maybe a ultra fatpounder, ground pounder... done with the sport bikes .

its really a personal choice if you live in NY,NJ, CT, PA area then you really can only ride the bike for about 6 months... the turbo civic you drive all the time... so take that into consideration. also if you are going to get a bike, i would wait and save a little more money and get a gsx-r, or r6, or f4i all 600s and good starter bikes.

so that being said my .02 is get the turbo now... then after the turbo start saving for a bike for next season.

yah i'm gonna shop around for a decent cruiser...
i think i'll end up buyin a turbo...but not for a while...i wanted an SF but they don't seem to be responding as quickly as i'd like. im waiting to see what Dezod brings out. building a custom turbo is too much(complicated) for me rite now. all i want it for is a lil speed on the highway.

i'm not really a big fan of sports bikes....i just like to cruise...i guess i'm just that way

After Riding for a couple of years, and then autocrossing for a couple of years... I'd say that if I want to go fast I plan on doing it with something with 4 wheels. way too many ways to die on a bike. Thats why I Ride cruzers rather then sport bikes.

Good quote from one of the guys I race with (Use to do MotoGP racing)

" If you get a sport bike and dont lay it down in the frist 6 months, congratulations your in the top 10% of riders. if you can make it a full year with out laying it down.... Well, then your not riding with the right group of people".

Id go with the motorcycle, my first one was a 79 honda 350 i think, might have been bigger, and i dumped it 3 times, but it was old and something to learn on. People can say you will get killed on a bike, I have seen 3 and they were not too pretty. But that is not going to stop me, I am building one this winter, i decided 1 car is enough and im not racing so I don't care about power.
I have seen plenty of people killed in car accidents too. Point is, do what you want, have fun, cause you never know when its over. Get the rebel for now and later upgrade it and then later on get a turbo. if it takes 3 yrs, so be it.

the rebel i need to either change the battery or charge it i think...it starts but only after a charge...(bad alternator?)
and he said the nighthawk may have some carb problems cuz they have both just been sitting there...i'm gonna check them out this weekend

pick up a battery tender at a bike shop for the rebel. the one i have at home is supposed to be good for recovering batteries with a low charge but i can't remember what brand it is off the top of my head. most motorcycles dont do a very good job of charging a battery, they just maintain the charge. so if it sits for a while, it'll be tough to start. if its an old battery, it may be shot tho.

if he left both of em sitting without stabil in the gas, the carbs on both could be messy.

If i were u i would get the turbo. I just saw this one episode of cops where this guy and this girl ran into a drunk driver on a city street doin 75mph. It was not pretty . The girl had to have her leg amputated and the buy broke his tibia and fibia.

Jus my thoughts ...
