My guess is that it's a cold air intake linked to a hood scoop. That's about the only purpose to have a hood scoop on a civic...

It looks like an intake filter with the filter part chopped off (wavy lines on the circumference of the flange). Then they took part of the chopped off filter element and ::snickers:: bolted it to the base of the filter. Not sure why they did it and I'm pretty sure it dosn't make a very good filter.

I suppose there are creativity points to be had, but the construction seems a little poor. Do not fret though, all hope is not lost. If the rubber connections are trimmed down about an inch and hose claps are added, the would be a good start. The piece that holds the filter element should be reworked though. There are manufacturers that make an element that will fit in line with the pipe and take up no more room than that.

I apologize if this makes absolutely no sense, I'm running a fever now, 102 F last time I checked.

i think what he had in mind was..."the shorter distance the air had to travel the more hp you'd get?" correct me if im wrong...i had the same crazy idea a while back but never really tried it.

omg some company should R&D a hood that has a scoop taht can work in conjunction with our stock airbox.. i mean just like the bottom end of the airbox without the lid.. and the lid is part of under the hood.. get what i trying to say?
