Both cars are pretty practical... meaning you have a crapload of storage space and four doors + hatch (if you get the XRS or 3sport)

I'd go for the XRS since i trust toyota's rock solid reputation (and heck it has 180horses!)

test drove the 3 (the one with 160hp i think) and the low-end was excellent! but once i got past 4.5k rpm, the engine sorta felt weak from there...

haven't even driven the XRS yet... i suggest you testdrive both and decide which one you like better (for looks, performance and let's not forget reliability) goodluck!

i know the vibe isn't as stylish, but you can get a vibe GT for prolly 2-4k less than a matrix and it is the same car.

Haven't test driven either of those cars. From the looks, I'd take the 3 over the XRS. I'd looking into probably owning a Mazda 3, but the four-door. I don't like those new hatches that have been coming out.

Gotta agree with you. I took a fully loaded Vibe GT on a weekend roadtrip alittle over a year ago. It was great, I really enjoyed the car. Plus I noticed almost everything in the car short of the stereo was from the Toyota parts bin. In Michigan you can pick up used low mileage GT models for alittle over $11k. Much better than paying almost $20k new.

RedDragon333 will become famous soon enough
Ive driven the XRS and its a fun car for sure plus there are plenty of aftermarkert parts for it. I havent had much a chance to look at the new 3 but it looks uniqe but since its a new car there are gonna be bugs so i would say the XRS

Here is my opinion...
The Matrix, to me, looks terrible. That being said, I would go with the Mazda 3 for sure. However, if you get the sedan, there really isn't that much more room. Mazda 3 was fun when I drove it, too.

Mazda 3 is a really nicely built car, especially with the leather. But, man it gets real pricey with options. I saw one up around 24k loaded. That's a lot for a car like that. But it's still better than the Matrix, there really isn't a particularly fast Matrix of any of the available models.

I personally like the 3's looks, both sedan and lil hatch. The Matrix however is really cool because it has optional AWD, but not on the model you want, the XRS. If that were me, I'd go for the Mazda for an everyday ride that looks great and performs well, but the XRS is def. a good car thats probably sportier than the 3...
