Difference in launching with a manual and neutral dropping with auto?

I know neutral dropping with an auto ain't good for your car but can someone tell me how it's different then launching with a manual? My friend asked me this question and I couldn't explain it to him.

^ because it fu(ks up your tranny. im not quite sure why its bad, but i know a guy who neutral dropped his brand new 03 tiburon and and completely blew his transmission, so its not the best idea. if you want to launch in your auto maybe try holding the brake and gas at the same time, i dont know if that would work or not though because i have a 5-speed.

your auto tranny has 2 clutches in it and when u "drop" your just slamming it into 1st and will eventually tear out 1st gear

2600rpm actually, suposevly, thats where our stock tourqe convertor locks up when the tranny is in gear, your just messing stuff up if you go in higher than that, and even so, I dont know how good it is for the clutches in the tranny anyways, but if you keep it under the lockup point, and for heavens sakes dont neutral drop, you should be OK, but I wouldnt do it alot.

With a manual trans, you can do it 1 of 2 ways.. "feather" the clutch or "pop" it..
Basically, each has to do with how fast you let out the clutch. A clutch dump is equivalent to "popping" clutch (releasing it very fast). This engages the clutch very quickly and can easily cause wheelspin, wheel hop, or bog the engine. If you have drag radials or slicks, you can launch at a higher RPM, dump the clutch (without losing traction), and still keep the engine in its power band.

A clutch feather, on the other hand is "riding" the clutch. With this, the clutch doesn't fully engage for a longer time because you let the pedal out slowly. This keeps the engine from bogging and can control wheelspin/hop, but you aren't using all the power from the engine effectively.

With an auto trans,

Yeah Nutral Drops are not cool at all, you will end up killing the tranny basically by slamming it into 1st gear and then one day, bang.

For a manual if there is any trouble the clutch basically just slips, but doing that in a manual will wear out the clutch that much faster, but its a hell of allot cheaper to replace that than an Auto tranny.

Just my $0.02

I may be wrong but doesent an auto spin to all hell when n droped like that? I raced an lol Saturn Ion in my Si and he did that, still got left, and he spun hard. The other thing I would say is that a manual lets you feather the clutch to launch harder....
