Honda says it's studying new compact car for US market
TOKYO, Jan 29 (Reuters) - Honda Motor Co (Tokyo:7267.T) said on Thursday it was studying the possibility of marketing a new compact car in the United States but denied a newspaper report that it had already decided on such a move.
The Nihon Keizai business daily said Japan's second-largest auto maker would start selling a new 1,300 cc compact car in the U.S., its most important market, to counter the growing popularity of cheap South Korean-made vehicles.
The new model would be based on Honda's strong-selling Fit subcompact, also known as the Jazz, it said.
It will be priced from around $10,000, cheaper than the Civic -- currently the most popular small car in the U.S. for Honda, the paper said.
"It's pure speculation," a Honda spokesman said. "We've said that we're studying a model that's below the Civic class, but nothing has been decided."
The business daily said Honda was considering exporting the vehicles from Japan but may make them in Brazil if the dollar continues to trade below 110 yen.
Japanese auto executives have expressed concern that the popularity of South Korean vehicles among young, first-time buyers could eventually undermine their stronghold in the U.S. small-car segment.
Honda is especially vulnerable because, unlike many rivals, it has no platform on which to build conventional pickup trucks, a significant portion of the U.S. market.

I think i read a article on that Spoon version... and because of its size and weight balnce... it had like the best times on some track compared to more powerful cars ( i forgot the name but if i do decided to go through my old mags, i'll post it but don't hold your breathe
i've seen a grip of those honda jazz's when i was in hong kong. there's actually a lot of those "mini" cars. what's really weird looking is that they're on 14"/15" wheels. kinda small in comparison to the body.

Shouldn't cost 10K, only when it comes out brand new, because of dealer markup of a brand new car. I remember in 99 when I was looking at a 99 DX hatch that was going for 9 grand.
It only makes sence to bring their best selling car from Japan to their biggest market... The Mugen Fit has niiice rims, if people want to see it I could scan the brochure that I brought back from Japan and put it up.
