hmm .. ok, but what do you like about it again?
Sure it looks pretty smooth, but there are at least 50 cars that I think look and perform very very nicely; 15 of them are probably in the same price range.
I think you should drive it first and see. Mustangs look mean as hell on paper, but when you actually drive one and drive something else in it's same class it's a different story. Of course this new model could be different than what I've experienced in the past.
Besides, who knows what kind of goodies will be out in late '05 or '06, might be something 10 times better.
It is your money though. Personally I would be happy with a turbo or swap, but I love my Civic and don't really wanna get rid of it.

Well, simply put the Mustang has a soul. I like my Civic too, but it puts out a 'just transportation' vibe. It's clean, but bland. It's peppy, but still slow. I've driven many mustangs, including ones from the 60's and they just have personality. Besides, by the time I do everything to my Civic that can be possibly done, I'll be just as fast as the Stang is stock. I guess to some people, build quality isnt their top concern when it comes to performance cars.
I'll flip out and kill people.

im not raggin on domestics in general, but i worked in a shop up till about a year ago and fords stood out as far as wacky placement and just head scratching carelessness of some of the parts... not too mention that yea any new car is gonna be nice. ive driven old mustangs and id say they are fun as hell to cruise in... im not biased towards most cars, save for the obvious, but ford has some convincing to do, because there IS a reason why a lot of people have a grudge with fords, except for the people on the bandwagon. the new mustang looks sweet, but ive had my experience in owning fords and working on them, and ill believe the "quality" when i see it.

I think it's a great idea...
The Mustang and Civic are completely different cars and each has it's purpose. Those people criticizing the build quality are interested in that and that is what is important to them. Someone who wants a mustang wants different things than the "typical" civic owner...
The C6 will be double the price so again you are comparing apples and oranges...
Do what I did and buy both and have best of both worlds: an 11 sec nice looking Mustang and a 36mpg reliable Civic.....
BTW, Panoz roadsters have Ford's Cobra Motor....

Being openminded about liking both imports and domestics is now considered being a traitor?
Gay x 10...both have their pluses and minuses, and people that completely shut out either are only hurting themselves.
Furthermore the platform is NOT technically 30 years old, have you even researched Mustangs before? The Fox chassis was used from 1979-1993 (way too long, IMO), and was considerably stiffened and revised in 1994 as the FOX4 chassis. So if you want to consider vast improvements in integrity, rigidity and handling "the same platform", then you are one of those consumers who is NEVER pleased with changes/redesigns
Ride in a 79, and then in a 98, then tell me it feels like the same platform.

My fiance's 94 GT was MUCH stiffer and well put together than my 88 5.0 coupe. The 99-04 had trim complaints and quality control issues on the little irritating parts (interior pieces not lining up, etc), but from what I have heard, Ford is really taking a serious stance on improving their image. I guess they know even diehard Ford fans will only put up with that careless crap for so long until they go over to Honda, Toyota etc. Hell, the 05 just LOOKS like it's put together better than its predecessors...better exterior lines, higher quality interior materials...can't wait to check it out!
Nothing works better than a Chris except a Honda.

Well, if you like it than good...
We purchased two Honda's and we're satified with both. The Mustang looks nice up close but I haven't been able to hop into any one of them. The one I saw wasn't on the floor. Hopefully the interior is better designed than the focus' interior (which I find a little akward). If the quality lasts and they spent as much if not more effort/funds on that than Ford did on their Trucks/SUV's than it should be a great deal.
