Personally I'd explain to her that SUVs are quite possibly be the most Un-safe veichles ever built. if that doesnt change her mind then I would push her twards one with a unibody chassis rather then a Full frame. such as a Rav 4, Mercedes ML, Bmw X5, Hond CRV.. ect.. Full frame SUVs and trucks arn't safe in accedents.

Me too, But the price of the explorer was almost exactly the same as the Expedition with the same features This doesn't make sense to me, twice the truck for fairly the same price! Anyway anybody know much about the pro and cons for a expedition to a yukon or a denali??

Safety...
What about the safety of the people that drive a car and get hit by one of those monstrous suvs? Do you know where the bumper of a yukon lines up to on the door of a civic or other car? Very close to the window, where there's no protection!

That's part of the reason people buy suvs. Their own safety, with no regards to the safety of others.
Reason #2 is so they can see over other traffic, while BLOCKING everyone else behind them.
Reason #3 is to have the biggest vehicle on the road, so they can bully other drivers.
Reason #4 is vanity. Most people that need the space are better suited to using a minivan or wagon...but nooooo...they aren't "cool" enough.

SUVs are too big, too heavy, gas-hogs, top-heavy, stop poorly and handle like a$$. Most never even use the 4wd they come with...it's just there "in case."

If you're going to buy an SUV, buy it for the right reasons. If you're determined to get one anyway, do some research and comparisons. Look at the Pilot, Pathfinder, 4runner, etc. And if you can get by with a smaller vehicle, look at the crv, element, rav4 type suvs. Don't be another one of the sheep that gets a suv because the Jones' have one.

I'm not sure what to say. . hmm. . I would definately only go as big as you need. Any bigger is just stupid. So if you can get by with a smaller SUV then DO IT! If you can't live with a small SUV and absolutely have to get a large one, then just check them all out. I don't even like to ride in the huge ones, just doesn't feel safe. If you have to get a big one you might as well forget the $30,000 range, because you aren't going to get a large SUV that is safe for that price. Anyways. . I say spend the 30k on a nice Sedan, if she is living with a RIO then she can live without an SUV as far as size goes.

Tell her to get a Subaru Forester 2.5XT. SUV cargo space without the ridiculous size, gas-guzzling, or price tag... oh, did I mention it has the STi engine in it.
