Holly back from the dead thread.. ****..
Hondas/Acuras line up is fine and makes tons of money as it is.
Base: Civic 2/4 door 127HP
Mid: Civic SI, Acura Base 160HP
High: RSX-S 200HP
There are no gaps to fill period!

Hypothetical situation:
I want to buy a Honda - I'm a big fan whatever...
The punk down the street has the SRT-4. What car does honda offer in it's price range that will compete with it?
The answer: they don't have a car that can compete with it.
I could get the S2000... for thirty grand... but then the STI and EVO are smokin' me AND have AWD to boot.
Don't get me wrong Hondas are great cars. I now drive a RSX type-S and would never think of trading it for a clunky neon. The RSX has class, style, some speed, and far better reliabilty.
As far as a Civic Type-S stealing sales from the RSX... It's really a different market. For the Civic, keep the cloth interior, leave out the sunroof, and keep it an inexpensive car. The RSX then still maintains it's luxury image and will attract plenty of people.
This new Civic Type-S would pull buyers from the Mazdaspeed protege and SRT-4 market. Basically (very generally speaking) young 20-30 year old males.
Give it slightly more aggressive styling, a limited slip diff, and a price of $18,000 - $20,000, and you have an instant winner.

the model "honda civic type-s" does exist. its offered in uk. its a 5 door.
of course its running the same specs as the USD civic si except in 5 door form. so im guessing uk has a more diverse lineup of civics compare to us in the us from a stripped down hatch all the way up the type r.

We'll have to wait till the next gen comes out though because they won't stick a new car in the current line-up anytime soon.
I would really want the next gen EX (both sedan and coupe) to have a K20 motor but I doubt that will happen.

you know what, just say screw it and go buy a TSX. It has a manual 6-speed, big HP numbers and pimpified stature. Also, the way i see it, some, not all, car manufacturers are retarded. They really don't know what the consumer wants, the demographic that buys thier product and what would really work. They are a bunch of over the hill fat asses driving big *** sedans or exotics, doing 40 kmh in a 70 zone bitching at the youth on the road and thier fly-*** rides as they zoom pass them. I don't know what Honda has in store for the future but I think if they don't do something soon, those shitty domestic pieces of ***** (ie. Saturn Ion Redline, SRT-4, Cavalier, Focus SVT and Lancer, let's face it, the Lancer is a Dodge in disguise) will dominate out of the box and we are all stuck having to spend more money just to keep up with them. Seeing that SRT-4 made me sick becuase Dodge makes me sick. Why the hell hasn't Honda came out with something like that? 250 HP at the tires!!! That's stocK!! And it has a factory turbo. WTF!!! If there is any "honda execs" reading thisentire post, get your head out of your asses and take your rightful place at the top of the food chain. You are the pioneers of 4 banger performance. Maintain your role. Don't dissapoint the millions of civic freaks out there that die by the Super-H.
The S2000, Integra GSR, RSX, TSX, 91-93 NSX(Those are the half way Affordable ones), Civic SI, Accord V6, Prelude Type SH, CL and CL type-s, and previous generation TL and TL type-s. These cars pretty much dominate their respective classes. And I believe that honda will put a better motor in the Civic coupe and sedan. But not in the 7th generation unfortunately. The 8th Generation has to be coming out soon because they just Gave the 7th a facelift which tells me that the sales numbers must be dropping. So honda is probably milking the last units of the 7th generation before introducing the 8th. I bet that the 8th generation will probably offer EVERYTHING FOR EVERYONE in terms of a better engine in the coupe/sedan for us Enthusiasts, and an Econobox Engine(which honda has millions of) for the Soccer moms out there. What do you think???????????????
Ya an lx is faster if the ex is an "automatic" and the lx is 5-speed but I smoke lx's all the time in my 5-speed

Will somebody please tell these kids that VAST MAJORITY of the Civics sold are not souped up??!?! People like your grandmother, who ****ed around when they were young and can't afford a Lexus, looove Civics for getting their groceries. And getting them to their weekend Bingo games. Why? It's good on gas.
When turbocharge a car, you get **** gas mileage. When you VTEC a car to hell and squeeze the compression to 11.0:1, you get **** gas mileage. Do you think the soccer mom next door gives a flying **** about doing burnouts? I don't think so.
Explain to me why Dodge still sells 200 regular Neons before they sell a single SRT-4. It's certainly not the limited numbers... cause I see a fleet of them sitting in their lots everyday.
It's because cars like SRT-4 are gimmick cars. They appeal to guys like us only. Average econobox car buyer (read: Civics, Neons & the rest) are not in the market for a 14-second FWD car. They want it to sip gas, and be cheap on insurance.
Need I say more? If you want an SRT-4, get an SRT-4.... if you want an RSX-S, go get one. Oh what, you can't afford one? That's probably why you are a Civic in the first place....

I do see a ton of SRT-4's and Mazdaspeed Protege's in dealer lots all over the place. And the have up to 5000 dollar rebates on them. I'm sure honda is playing it safe when they observe other manufactures sales numbers on their specialty cars. But those other manufactures (dodge and mazda for example) ARE NOT HONDA. No other manufacture as far as sport compacts has as much market penetration as Honda. So Honda definitely wouldn't have a problem selling More Civics with high performance engines here. When the previous generation SI coupe was finally released there were waiting lists at the local honda dealers. No I don't advocate supercharging either. Just increase low end torque a bit. That's why I think honda has something up it's sleeve for the next generation Civic. What do you think????????????????
As a side note has anyone seen the replacement to the Chevy Cavilier, called the Colbalt. THIS IS WHY HONDA HAS NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT IN THE SPORT COMPACT ARENA!!!!!!!!!

i'd rock the cobalt... i kinda like the look and it'll actually get over 200hp in a few years. i think domestics are gonna make honda feel it (cavalier was a reliable, if not ugly, car)
Chevy is going to produce a supercharged version of the Cobalt. But the design is sad to me.
I'm just saying that I believe honda will take notice and put their SI motors in the full line of Civics.....................At least for the 8th gen civic.

Up here in Maryland, I've seen 2 Mazda dealer lots with at least 20-30 2003 mazdaspeed protege's. Mazda can't seem to get rid of them. And the Rebates are big. The same with the SRT's they just don't sell too many around here from what I see. But I'll say it again. Honda seems to be the sport compact that everyone trust's regardless of the lack of power.
It's funny because someone left a message on the listserv that has a link to a Honda website in England which sells all civics in various engine sizes. Coupe, Sedan, Wagon, and Hatchback

IT'S NOT LIKE HONDA DOESN'T PRODUCE THE CIVICS THAT WE WANT. THEY JUST WON'T SELL THEM HERE IN THE STATES FOR SOME STRANGE REASON. AND IF HONDA EVER DECIDES TO SELL THEM....I GUARANTEE THEY WILL SELL ALL OF THEM HERE BECAUSE THEY ARE HONDAS.

Buddy, get a grip. All I am sayin is that Honda should have those options available "for people like us". Granted the aftermarket shops show us the potential but it would be nice to see Honda saying "This is what you can get out of our engines" without the aftermarket shops doing it for them. My grandmother?! Man you are lame, time to grow up junior....

honda's engineers are all working on trucks. and hybrids. and improving safety. i think they're happy to tweak whats working, and forget about performance. like toyota has been doing on camry/corolla for about 20 years now...
