I know it has been replied to death, but The general rule is you want to leave the car in the gear that would stop it from rolling if the b-brake failed. If you were parking downhill, you would want to leave your car in reverse since the reverse gear will not allow the car to roll forward (Well, its NOT supposed to) and 1st gear for uphill parking, so the car does not roll backwards.

I have a remote start on my car so I leave it in nuetral with the emergency brake on. Because it will start in gear, and thats just not pretty.

cryption should not be trusted
i hear you're supposed to leave it in reverse and use the e-brake ... and since i drift so much usin my hand brake it is pretty useless so i gotta leave it in gear.

I bring wedges wherever I go, and put them behind my tires... you never know when someone wants to cut your brake lines.

YES that is correct! very bad for your trans and engine in the long run. what i do is i stop, put it in neutral, pull up on the hand brake, let go of the break pedal( so the cars weight can rest on the hand break), push on the preak pedal, and then i shitf it into park. seems like a long process but its actually not. also i feel bad when ppl park and just throw it into P and once they let off the brake pedal the car rocks.

I park in a parking lot.

And sometimes in a garage or off a curb.

This guy at the door says "um hey, is that your car backed into the street? "i'm like, oh ****!" I run outside to move the car back into the driveway while 3 cars sit waiting for me to get out the way =\ it was pretty embarassing.
moral of the story: DON'T let ur gf drive ur car!!!

hmm i never thought about people cutting ur ebrake line and towing the car away cuz its in neutral.

guess I'll start the habit of leaving it in gear even when its not on a slope.

My mother in law is the worst person to park a car. She does not know what straight is. If she is driving down the rood and parking parallel to the curb, I dont know how she does it, but she will be like 2" in the front, and like 30" in the back to the curb. How the hell do you do that? Then, parking in the drive way up to the garage? I swear, it is a two car parking but when she gets done, its only a one car parking. She cannot center herself to the garage on the left or right side. She like focus on the center of the garage and turn into the drive, and then park, no matter how un perpendicular to the garage she is or what. My father in law got pissed at her one because she actually parked her car in the middle of the street side ways once, no kidding. Only reason we knew this cause we heard people honking and someone at the door. I go out side and then burst up into laughter. My father in law is WTF. She actually tried to parallel park between two cars, and it looked like she gave up in the middle of trying. You know how you pull forward up to the back tire of the front vehicle, then move backwards, and you know the rest. Well, I guess after several attempts, she just left the car sideways, perpendicular almost the the curb, blocking the traffic and said F*** it. I love watching her park, I cant count how many times I have had to park her car, or get her car out of the driveway only because someone had parked on the road on either side of the driveway. The woman cannot back up. I dont know how she survives parking lots. Ok, I am done. Wow, the memories.

If they towed the car away then what use would leaving it in gear do? They would lift the front tires off the ground. Or use a flat bed with a winch thats strong enough to pull your car onto the ramp even if the parking brake was on.....for the record it's a funny site to see a car being pulled onto a flat bed with all four tires locked up and the alarm going off. I see this all the time when I'm leaving clubs.
