Cruise Controll Idea
well I just posted this, and of course it didnt get posted, so now I get to re-type it. yay.(now x3)
I was speeding yesterday, as usual, and I had the cruise controll set just in case. Then I thought that it might be neat to have different gauges or maybe a TV or somthing in where the speedometer is, casue when you are speeding if you know how fast you are going it just makes you want to slow down. But if a cop is suddenly nearby you would proably want to be going the speed limit right? So what if there was a way to have some buttons or switches that are pre-set so some speeds, like 25, 35, 45, 55, 65. Then you could at least go the speed limit if you had to or wanted to.
first thing I thought of was to have some switchs (maybe down by the power plug?) that you could flip and hit resume. like if you wanted to go 35 you could flip that switch and then hit resume and it would be at 35. does this make sense?
Im just wondering how possible this might be, and please dont respond with, "anything is possible with money" or somthing like that

You would have to be able to have those switches linked with the transmission and also to the gas and brake, or the very least, tied into the cruise control brain. The one question I ask is that if you are doing 35 mph with cruise control, and you have the 35 switch flipped if you flip the 65 switch and hit resume, how will that work with the manual? Also how will the computer / car know which swith to read off of sense you would have two switches flipped up?

Or let's stretch your brain a little farther.... what if the car had a built in radar detector, a built in gps, and a preprogrammed map of all roads and speed limits. Then you could set the car to travel the speed limit and if let's say it dropped for a stretch of road, the car would automatically slow down. AND, you could set your car to, let's say, +10MPH over the speed limit. Then if the radar detector went off the car would slow to the speed limit. Now that would be cool...

What you are talking about is already in progress of being made. Toyota and Audi have already started on technology that when the cruise control is activated it goes the exact speed limit allowed on that road. Of course something of this magnitude and of this technology won't be out for years, maybe decades. But it is starting to be developed. By the time it is released, I'm betting that the world we live in will have at least a few robot commanded cars that drive you anywhere you want to go..
i.e. Minority Report , Total recall "Johnny Cab"

As if those movies could freak you out any less...
Arnold pulling that thing out of his nose, gross. And, my eyes started watering like mad watching minority report. When he got new eyes, I think you know what I'm talking about.

Thinking about this more...
Think about how much better traffic would flow. There would be no speed ups and slow downs, just a constant rate of travel.
With that in mind, greenhouse gases (emissions) would be reduced. The tree-huggers would have to bitch about something else.

exactly, but that is also why they couldn't have it.
If you gave speeding up completely, because you didn't control the car anymore, there would be no need to have cops using radar guns anymore and there would be no need to pull anybody over anymore because they couldn't do anything illegal, unless cops outlawed a certain style of sitting in the car or something. So think of the jobs that would be lost the moment that became reality. That alone would force the gov't to not go ahead with something like this. Sucks doesn't it.

that is easy you just cut out the manual mode totally and if any-one tries to modify the car out of automatic mode you have the thign blow-up. Problem solved, yeha someone died but then again they have been warned.
And yes cops won''t be totally gotten rid of, but their numbers will diminish when they don't have to be patrolling for speeders or toll violators anymore, and the tollway authority will become basically non-existant

Ok.....but what we are really talking abou tor getting to is the fact of computer controlled speed in a vehicle. The ability to change speeds without having to do anything but flip a switch. We can press a brake pedal we do it everyday but we are just poping the idea out their of not having to do that later in time
