You can put a BOV on the A4, even on an Auto, best one out is the HKS seq. BOV. Universal fit, very high quality from what I hear. My mom gonna get a 1.8T, Im so gonna put a BOV on her car.
Don't worry about the extra 10hp on the VW. There's lots more to like about the A4. The slight loss in hp may be due to a more restrictive exhaust system. Perhaps the packaging of suspension, etc. is different so that the A4 could not get as free flowing of an exhaust. For example, the A4 with Quattro has a full independent suspension which may take more room than the VW Jetta/Golf's beam suspension; or it could be the Quattro drivetarin components.

I can picture your mom driving... and then, "OMG, What the hell was that?! Omg Omg Omg"
and having her sit on the road waiting for a towtruck, lol
but then again, iam on crack
If your talking about the difference between the A4/Passat and GTI/Jetta it's because the 1.8T engine in these two groups are different. In the A4, the 1.8T sits longitudinally(front to back) while in the GTI, the engine sits transversely(side to side.) Its a slightly different design and the A4/Passats actually have a different engine code from the others.

The BOV isnt the only thing Id get for her car. Drop it 1" and some Maya rims!!! 19x8.5 and 19x10 with 235/35/19 and 275/30/19. Only $3400!!!!!
My mom always has a phat car. My dads suburban is stock, but his Harley isnt. Profiled in Easyrider and Hot Bike magazines this year.
My civic just a daily beater, nothing special. Rather spend $$$ where it can make a major difference. Plus, my vic will be up and on its way by Jan. 1st next year.
