Jetta 1.8t wins in comparison

I test drove a few cars today for my freind. Apprently almost none of my friends can drive a manual car. The frist car was a 98 or 99 civic dx sedan(d16y7). Besides the fact that it neeed body work and a paint job it was still a piece of crap. The person who had the car previous was a total ricer. Did a crappy install on white face guages breaking the temp needle off. Had a header with catalic converter and a welded on tip on a stock muffler. And didn't even have an air in take. The lot was asking Almost 4k for this piece of ****. About the only good thing it did have was a short shifter. He could ahve gotten it for $2500. this car had 115k on it.

The second car was an 01 protege MP3. Came stock with power everything, 17" raceing heart wheels, and sport tunned exhaust. This think was a super nice car. It had super nice interior and good low end power up till about 75ish where it felt a bit sluggish. The handeling was awsome but the sports tunnd suspension was definatly very bumpy. this had 74k on it.

The last car was the 01 Jetta 1.8t Wolfsburg edition. This cars interior was not as nice as the mazda imo except for a bigger trunk and a sunroof. And the extrior isn't nierly as nice looking. But that is all makeing up for in the power. This thing is almost comparable to my civics power. It hits 100 in no time. And has a very strong powerband. It rides extremly smooth but didn't have the handleing of the mazda. this had 54k on it.

So I think he is going to get the Jetta. I am excited becasue he wants it to be a fast street car, which means he is going to pay for the turbo, fuel and suspension upgrades. (which i will have ot install) And since he isn't a racer or really into driving fast himself, but is a gambler and he knows I am a racer, I'll be the driver at the races. I guess its the Chicago in him, more of a watch other people go fast and risk thier life mentality. Apprently they don't have a very big street raceing scene up there. But anyways this means i'll have the civic and a probably much faster Jetta to race with.

Not only will you be installing aftermarket parts, You'll also be learning how to repair them at the same time...

Thats the only problem with the newer Jetta's...The break down ALL the time! I've got a friend with an 02 jetta, and that thing is in the shop more then its on the road.
I'd research that a bit before buying...

VW = Electrical problems....

nice cars if you can accept that, though they have the stupidest window regulator assembly EVER.... who ever thought that a cable and pully system was a great idea for the window regulator should be shot in the knee.

(Just Venting- My family owns a collision repair shop in San Diego... and from working in it since I was old enough to hold a wrench, I've developed some "interesting" views on some cars + MFG's.... Dont get me started on Porsche)
