Best first car?
Here's the deal. I'm 17 years old and had my licence for just over a year. I've been driving my dad's 7th gen si (ex) since last november when he got it and before that a 1984 civic hatch
. I really want to get my own car soon. Im looking in the 7000 - 14000 range (CDN) so its guna be second hand. I'm interested in what other's opinions are on what would be the best car to look for. My thoughts are a 4th gen prelude. A 93 or 94 SRV (prelude vtec), any year past that the prices seem to jump past 15000. They're pretty rare in B.C. where i live, maybe 5 or 6 in the buysells (of the SRV model inbetween 93 and 94). I think it would be the best choice for my situation... its still 4cyl so fairly good on gas, its a honda so its reliable (this particular car had very good reviews in reliablility, no problems), very good looking car imo, and its got some power h22 190hp stock. I cant think of a car that would be better, please let me know what you would do.

what about an Acura Integra?? It's got alot of potential if you're looking towards modding it and Integras look pretty slick. They're probably pretty good on gas as well. A 1997 or 1998 could probably fit your price range. Plus there are quite a few to choose from here in BC.
Hey, this is kinda trippy but i'm Mike D from BC too.

im with mrad.........a teggy would me a good 1st car if you want to get into modding as well as having a 1st car. parts are ez to find and they make EVERYTHING for the integra. but im with civic dude to a 240 would be sick!
Also...if not a teggie there are quite a few 1997 and 1998 Mitsubishi 3000 GT's with less than 70K miles with ASKING prices of between $12,000 & $14,000 USD. The non-turbo 3.0 V-6 has around 220 HP.

That's a whole lot sexier than my grandpa's hand-me-down 1968 Chevy I got as a first car lol

I'd say integra, mrad and oso are right on about being able to find ANYTHING for them, so there are limitless possibilities, I've got a few friends with some around here, they're very nice cars.
What kind of driving skills do you have? I grew up difting the rear end of my fourwheelers out around corners so I love rear wheel drive. If you want more economy and more predictible driving in adverse conditions go front wheel drive. For front drive, I recommend the Integra GSR. I had a 98 and it was awesome, it also got around 30mpg. For rear wheel drive look for a good deal on a 93 RX-7. It has great potential for performance. Maintenence will be higher than the more reliable Acura so think about what is imporatant to you.
i would say the best first car would have to be a 1990-1993 Honda Accord 5-speed 4 door. they look great, fun to drive, are decently quick, are a nice platform to mod, and get AWSOME gas mileage. downside: they're not to cheap to buy.

Thanks, yah tegra would be my second choise. It'd have to be 94 + and the gsr's seem to be around the same price range as a prelude srv... so the prelude has a 2.2 190hp and the gsr tegra has a 1.8 170hp.. Prelude is about 200lbs heavier but also has about 30tq more. The gsr probably gets better mileage so it might be pretty balanced. Any other points?
