Has anyone driven an MR2?
I think the 2000 ones (whatever generation that is) are so cool looking. It looks like an exotic with it's headlights and rear brake scoops (and I assume they're functional, unlike those on a mustang. haha).

So if you've driven one, what did you think of it?

The 03's are
Hp: 138 @ 6400
Tq: 125 @ 4400
Which isn't that much...
but
Weight: 2195.
And I read somewhere that the 2000's have a 7.6 0-60 time and a 15.6 (I forgot the decimal) 1/4 mile. But the fact is that it's in the 15's. So I guess this little car looks faster than it is.
Hmm, needs a turbo charger.

Yeah, I drove one. It was pretty nice. A little small, but overall it was pretty sporty. I drove an S2000 right after and I liked the S2000 ALOT more. But for the money, about 18k used, I would get one if I could get out of my civic. It could use a little more power, but it cornered GREAT. Overall it was a fun car to drive. Go drive one and find out for yourself. You'll enjoy it.

The 2003's look better too. They have cooler looking tail lights, better looking xenon headlights, color matching scoops, and a little different front air dam and for lights.
I sure wish my car was newer

They aren't really brake scoops... I believe those are the air intakes since it's a rear engine car. My local Toyota dealer is supposed to call me if they get one in, but Toyota only makes like 4000 of them a year and they're hard to get ahold of. There's a 7month wait here.

I autocross with a guy that has one, He out runs a lot of "Faster" cars out on the track.
He run stock, I think the only thing he's changed are the wheels/tires and the front anti-roll bar. All conforming to Stock SCCA Autocross rules.

Zzyzx will know what I'm talking about - this is not a straight line car. This car was built with the "Lotus" concept in mind. In England, they didn't have big American V8s to play with to make their car fast, so they designed the entire car for racing instead of just the engine.
Enter the lightweight car.
It may run a 15 second quarter mile and go 0-60 in 7 seconds, but it is quick and nimble because of the thought in its designing. If you wanna drag race, this isn't for you. If you like pulling quick corners and such, this might be for you.

The 03's also have a few more lb/ft of torque than the 2000's.
But I'm going into real estate and I can't take clients around in this car.
Well, I could take one client (singular)

Body kits, spoilers, neons. Non of those are functional. Why is it ok to have those but not non-functional side scoops? Please explain I'd like to know. Spoilers pose as functional items, when really they do not affect anything but a rear wheel drive car going at least 80+ mph. Not my definition of functional.
I see non functioning hood and side scoops as body kits. Hell to tell you the truth functional hood scoops like the RAM air offered on teh WS6 have been found to have very little affect on performance ( the extra performance on the WS6 comes mostly from an upgrade exhaust set up). And the affects dont kick in till very high speeds.
I checked the toyota site but couldnt find whether they are functional at all, but I wouldn't instantly assume they are. But it is possible considering it is a mid engine car.
EDIT: found it- Functional side air intake ducts
http://www.toyota.com/html/shop/vehi..._exterior.html
but I'd bet they increase performance much, but its cool that they're functional.

heh there arn't any production cars that I know of that use rear brake scoops. Any car with funcutional rear scoops is a mid engine car.
Really? I always assumed they were to cool the rear brakes. I think some cars have ones that cool the front brakes, too. My mistake.

Haha, I always make fun of those, too. IMO, anything that doesn't help performance is stupid. So, I make fun of Mustangs for their non-functional side scoops and non-functional hood scoops, and I also make fun of spoilers on FWD cars, as well as bodykits that add weight and don't improve aerodynamics. Oh yeah, I also make fun of people who choose their intake based on how it looks...

I agree with you. See my previous paragraph. If a Corvette doesn't need a spoiler, my Civic definately doesn't need a spoiler.
I see non functioning hood and side scoops as body kits.
Me too. Would you like rice with that?

Hah, they're not for brakes after all. I was wrong. Thanks for pointing that out. Good info.

Eh I did a compare vehicle on the toyota site, and the s2000 is honestly the better value if you can fork over the extra 5,000. msrp of 30k as opposed to 25k. The s2000 comes with a much more powerful engine with more displacement (i.e. responds to mods better), leather, power top, lsd, electronic power steering, air filtration, and much cooler headlights

Oh, the only thing I'd worry about with a functional hood scoop would be getting water in there when it rains...
I dunno.
Good luck.

They stick like crazy. I know they're small nimble little things... Its so light, it doesn't need much power at all.
I haven't been in a new one, but I know the old ones have bad cases of throttle lift oversteer. I've never seen a new one spin out on the track, but that doesn't mean it can't happen. Its just too small and I don't fit in it.

All mid engine Rear wheel drive cars have bad cases of throttle lift over steer.
Porsches however are the worst offenders.... throttle lift mid corner with a 911 is death!!!!
