The new Honda S2200 Coupe will be out in Japan August of 2003. New coupe also received a bigger engine. The new engine is a 2.2 liter I4 and produces 250hp -- so it gained 10hp for extra 0.2 liters. MSRP will be from $34,300~up. This is the real coupe, not a detachable hardtop. The design of the car is based on old Honda S600.

Secondly, the gain in horsepower is more than that, considering that the japanese S2000 has ALWAYS had 247hp. So 250hp would only be a 3hp gain. Trust me, it's more than that.
Don't know who told you it was based off the S600.... the S2000 is it's own platform and it's own design, simply following in the S series roadster footsteps. The new S2000 with the 2.2 liter isn't based off anything other than it's own self... the S2000.
Hopefully they redesign the style a little though, it looks way too much like the chick car, the Miata.
I respect the engine though, and it would be sweet if Honda tuned the motor NA to be around 300 hp with a 10-11K rev limit.
But then, if they did that, would there be really anything you could do aftermarket, cause the engine would have to have a high *** compression to push out 300 hp.

i read about the new S2200 in car and driver. C&D say honda upped the displacement from 2.0L to 2.2L (i guess thats why its called S2200). they also mentioned that the S2200 will get MORE torque at a lower RPM (i guess honda thinks 153 lbs ft of torque at 7500RPM didn't cut it). they also say honda will lower the redline (hopefully not much, car sounds sweet when at 8000RPM+). a softer suspension and slight front fascia facelift are also in the mix. nothing mentioned about the car being a coupe, i guess its not happening this year.
