when this method was created, gas padals where usually bolted from the top, so the bottom of the pedal is what swung. now they are attached from the bottom or the back, so they dont move as easily when your heel is pressing them, it doesnt seem to fall in the right place...
so what i do is just get high on the brake, then tilt my foot to the right and use my toes on the top of the gas pedal. now i find this very easy, because i have long wide feet, so the pedals are all in reach... i dunno, i know i just had trouble heel-toeing at first, then i was taught to try it backwards.
and about the double clutching, you are talking about the right thing i think... -gas, +clutch, +neutral, -clutch, +gas, -gas, +clutch, +gear, -clutch, +gas... right? (i ask because people commonly misconcieve dbl clutching as a depressiong of the clutch within gears to raise rpms.) I used to get really messed up on this one... I dont know that a short throw shifter would help. my dad has a f250 super duty deasel, and it has like a 2 foot throw in the shifter, i dbl clutch it when i drive it, and i think its easier in that than in my civic. its all in the technique and timing.

and yes the double clutching i'm talking about is the one usually used for downshifting (but i guess it can be used for upshifting too) which saves your synchros
not the ricer definition which is stupid b/c your actually stopping your acceleration in order to wear out your clutch faster...

It would be easier if the pedals were wider/closer together though.

Rep Power: 0 Def. buy a stick. Nothing worse than having to shift your car into neutral, put on the the parking brake, just to rev your engine.
I hadda learn quick when I bought my 01 LX back in Sept. but I would never go back now.

Rep Power: 0 CL-S vs. CivEX
after i totalled my MANUAL 2k1civEX last year i ended up gettin a 2k1 Acura CL type-S..of course those models only came in an auto/steptronic (or whatever the hell they call it)-and let me tell you its not the same. even w/ 260hp driving an auto is not near as much fun as a stick. once u drive a stick u never get sick of it cuz it ends up like a habit u dont think bout shiftin or anything unless ur racing. the only thing i like about the auto in my cl-s is being able to gently gas it and beat punks in their ford focuses without breaking 3,500 rpm.

Rep Power: 340 My car is an auto because I couldn't drive manual when I got it. Since then I've learned to drive stick and I think it's 100% better. It makes me more attentive to what's going on around me.

Rep Power: 282 I have auto as well. Driving stick in NYC is a bit**, soo much traffic. I had an integra b4 which as stick, and it was very annoying. Our cars dont go that fast anyway, so I went with auto.

Rep Power: 0 i dont think its a bitch to drive stick in stop and go traffic... its worse on hilly back roads, but then it still doesnt suck...
my mom used to let me change gears in her car when i was like 5...
when i was 7 one of my friends learned how to drive his dads truck, and to out do his parents they tought me how to drive a stick at 7. we had this old datsun station wagon. it has no clutch left, a cracked header, and what brakes are left are warped and often get stuck... but yeah
ive always known how to drive stick pretty much.. my parents said i needed to in case of emergencies.

Rep Power: 395 I have a manual and I love it. I love power shifting (without letting off the gas). I love reving. I love burn-outs. I love downshifting. Then again, an auto would be nice sometimes as well. In the city when it's just stop and go traffic. Why bother with manual? Performance from stop to stop? Bleh. Some corners require more concentration that I have, so I would prefer an automatic tranny so that I can concentrate on steering instead of steering and shifting. I guess it depends. The fastest Supra's have auto trannies. You can't shift fast enough to lay the power down continuously in the 1/4 mile. It depends. I wish I had an automatic with a manual override myself. Kinda a dual-mode. That would be pretty sweet. I'de use one mode and the other from time to time...
