so im gonna be driving about 2000 miles soon, and im curious to ask, anyone have any idea what speed is most gas efficient? i know it sounds retarded, but im on a tight tight budget, and every penny counts. so if anyone has any clue, lemme know...

couldnt tell ya, but remember not to gas on it....just slowly get up to the speed you want to travel and put it in cruise....remember that stepping on it drinks more gas than traveling at 90......

well i think so anyway...again i cant really help.

yea 55 - 65. i only say that cuz i remember hearing someone say that's why the national speed limit was once set between 55 - 65 to save fuel consumption. i could be wrong but i remember something along those lines

i usually get around 440mi before my gas light comes on, and I'd say my average speed is anywhere from 42-47mph, in 5th gear. i usually get around 40mpg +/- 2

yeah you'll definately burn more gas at highway speeds of 70+mph

LOL...thats out there dude. even the honda manual says shift into 5th at like 53mph. HAHAHAHAHA

id say 65-75 would be a good balance between good mpg and decent speed so that the trip doesnt take too long. cruise control is key, i just hate using it cause i like to be in control.

the book also says get your oil changed every 10,000 mi.. now tell me do you know anyone that gets it done at 10,000??.. and your timmig belt replaced at 110,000mi.. there's no way i'm waiting that long to get my belt replaced..

besides @ 40mph its around 2500rpm which is fine in my book. yeah if you step on it, it'll take forever to speed up. but I'm not trying to impress anyone.

You want to be travelling fairly slow but yet in 5th gear. Wind resistance increases exponentially as speed increases. Also without getting into the whole "how to improve gas mileage" debate, make sure your tires are nice and firm and keep the windows rolled up. Those two things seem to be the most agreed upon ways to help with your penny pinching.

55mph with an extra person all highway up to the hills in Vermont scored me a whopping 42mpg on the 5-spd LX coupe.

I'd say 55-70mph. I have taken quite a few short trips (3-4hrs one way) and found that traveling over 75 really starts to bring the MPGs done. I mean, how can you get good mileage when the engine is buzzing at 3900-4000rpm. That is for my ex 5spd and I seem to remember that you have an auto ex so...

i did a 3400 mile trip
and i found out that going in the 65-75s gave me the best results and the best time management
i think i managed about a 35-37mpg average with A/T and minor mods (catback, intake)
just dont gas it and dont downshift at higher RPMs
or else the needle drops pretty damn fast

if your 5speed then shift at 2k instead of 2.5 like the manual says... also, when accelerating don't push the gas more than 3/4 down... also, when coming to a stop... don't downshift, just wait until the rpm comes to around 1k and then put it into neutral then stop, it puts more stress on the brakes (but lesser stress than coasting) but you save more gas than downshifting when slowing down...

1. don't gas it
2. travel light the lighter you travel the gas you consume
3. If you drive faster than 40 MPH then close your windows
turn you a/c on. The wind resistence with the windows open
over 40 MPH will decrease your miliage more than if you drive
your a/c
4. Cruise Cruise Cruise control

I read before that 55mph is the ideal speed. Anything below or above is wasting more fuel. But though you want to save money, I dont think its worth the time lost by going so slow, especially if your driving 2k miles.

when i am on the drive here where i live i stay in 4th at about 50mph. if i am speeding i go into fifth. but then again, i make sure not rev over like 3000rpm on most usual days. if it goes over that speed on like a hill, then i shift, but there are not many long straight aways to keep it set in 5th... when i do, the cars at like 1700rpm, which is too low for those speeds.

but it may be cause i have a sedan
