those who think manual is better tell me some reason why manual is better and those who think auto is better tell me some reason why auto is better please.
hm..i think manual is better since i think its cool and i can control the car as i want. by driving manual i think i can get feel the car. its much more fun to drive.
but its sometimes annoying me when driving in traffic jam and i think its more dangerous in snow or heavy rainy weather. but still im on the side of stick
any opinion??

automatics take all of the brainwork out of the car... but you can get more of a feel for the car with a 5spd and the gearing isnt as tall as automatics so you get better pickup
Powertrain loss in automatic. There's nearly a 1 second difference in the 1/4 between an automatic and a manual Civic.
Full control of the powerband with manual.
That's all. A torque converter could fix the problem of the torque sucking automatic.
Gears switch faster in an automatic. The transmission could possibly take better use of power if there's enough power to take advantage of.
BTW, stick and manual = same thing.
And this topic has been molested but whatever.

The first link was good, but there was one where I felt as if it made a pretty uneducated point.
Just because your car is a manual transmission doesn't mean car theives won't break in or try to steal it. It could take a theif a shorter time to learn how to drive stick (before stealing the car) than the time it takes to learn how to steal a car in the most effective way. I don't know what kind of mindset thinks that a manual won't get stolen as often as an automatic.
The Integra Type R speaks for itself. Almost every week on ITR forums, someone gets their car stolen and rarely gets it back.

ive got a manual, its good because i can beat tons of autos even though they have more horsepower (ex. beat my friends 150hp eclipse by a car with my 127 hp stock)
but also theres downsides to having manual, its hard for me to talk on my cell phone or smoke a cig or anything with manual because i have to shift gears.

Ive owned a bunch of automatic cars due to convience of purchase. Sometimes buying used on a limited budget means you cant always pick the car, the features and colours. I always hated automatics. Boring as hell. Just sit there like a lazy slob with one foot and one hand.
There is nothing, and I mean NOTHING like flying down a twisty road pedal dancing and steering and shifting all at the same time. There is simply no comparison. When I finaly got my new SI Coupe 5spd in May it was like being 16 again. Every day is exciting behind the wheel now. Im sure it will wear off in a few years again but then maybe I can afford a real power pig. Maybe a Mustang SVT or Corvette Z07 or whatever is out at the time. Im a young tool & die apprentice so I dont make so much just yet. But by the time the financing is done on this car, I will probably be making double what I am right now. So who knows!
But I suppose Automatic is great for people with long commutes. Ive done alot of Toronto driving in bad traffic with the manual. My left leg does get mighty tired after an hour of stop and go, but in my opinion ITS TOTALY WORTH EVERY MINUITE OF IT

had 2002 civic ex auto. sucked and hated . traded in for new si ( 5 speed stick)
i love it.
I used to have problems going into a blank stare when I drove. But with the manual I dont seem to do it at all anymore. Having to make more of a concious effort when you drive keeps you alert I find.

I had an 02 ex coupe auto that I traded in last week for an 01 inca pearl ex coupe. I have always owned manuals and the auto was an impulse purchase I guess. But re: our cars, the manual really helps us smaller engines and it really isn't that bad commuting in.

Granny trannys suck. Plain and simple, it's by far the easiest way to ruin a perfectly good car. They're for lazy people. Shift your own damn gears. It's not that hard, the car has better pickup, it's not any less safe in bad weather (it's probably better since you can control it more, and most importantly... its more fun. Even my dad is getting back to a stick car. He's driven autos for the last 15 years because he had to play musical cars with my mom (who refuses to learn) and so when I got my stick Civic, he realized what he was missing again, so now he's got his own.
You only get more power cuz you rev higher, cuz that's where our little engines get most of their power from...if you want more power in an auto just floor that shiet.
I have an auto cuz I've driven manual and it's kinda bothersome. No free hand to do other things...

I got an auto and it was the worst mistake I made about my car to date. I just did not know any better. I should have learned to drive a stick before I bought my car. Now I use it as a point A-B car with a little style. I plan on doing a swap when the price goes down and my funds go up. So everything will work out one day. Get the stick
