Most people would warm up their engines before going down the road by letting it sit idling. That's exactly what the manual says NOT to do. It's better to warm it up by driving it conservatively after the oil pressure builds up and the oil circulates. (About 30 seconds)



somebody said that..is that true?
letting it sit idling is not-to-do?
do i just wait for 30 sec after start and drive it gentlely?

i always warm the car up before i start to drive its best to warm it up. i start the car and light a cig wen im finish with a stick the i drive. (kids dont do this)

i kno warming up is the best.
do u start engine and light a cig and drive when u burn it out?
isnt it too long time? just asking..think if u do its same as letting it sit idling which is the manual says not to do

I never let it warm up. I turn it on, let the idle stabilize, and begin driving slowly. Warming up your engine does nothing for warming up the driveline. Nothing like beating on your motor while the gearbox is still cold...

I only let mine warm up when its freezing *** cold outside. other than that i crank it and go, but it seems like i let it idle for maybe a minute or so while I fumble around to put a different cd in. Other than that i just go.

I let my needle reach the top of the "C" then drive off slowly until it reaches normal temp. Something about going from cold to hot too quickly bothers me..

The goal is to get the engine up to temp as quickly as possible w/o beating on the engine. This is done by driving conservatively until it reaches normal temp.

Wow.. I turn it on and go, I pull it fast out of the driveway then onto the street slowly.. then go moderate levels for a few minutes...then go hard..

I always let my car idle for at least 30 secs (if it's already warm), or a minute or longer (if the engine is dead cold and hasn't been driven for about 10 hours or more). I just like to give the oil a chance to circulate throughout the engine block. My rule of thumb for dead-cold engines is to just wait until the idle rpm starts to go down a bit.

I always use my auto-start while im getting ready, and let it run for like 5-7min idling. Is that bad? When I get in my car, its all ready "warmed up".

what it says is not to let it idle for long time, not sure how long is "long time"

It's bad to let the engine idle excessively, because there is no airflow into the radiator (besides the radiator fan), and you are letting the engine build up heat while the cooling system is working hard to cool the engine. Not to mention it wastes gas and pollutes the environment.

However, it is fine to let your car idle for a very short while to warm the engine up. There is a certain temperature range where the engine is at its peak in terms of combustion efficiency. The quicker you can get to that point and stay there, the better.
