1998 hatchback cx as first car??
1998 hatchback cx as first car??
Would a 98 hatch cx be a good first car? I am going to look at one soon an automatic, and I’m wondering if it has power steering? I know the cx is base model so it doesn’t have much but would you recommend it?
Re: 1998 hatchback cx as first car??
Ask about routine maintenance i.e belts, fluids, etc.
CX does not have power steering. They’re light enough that it shouldn’t be an issue.
If there’s a link to an ad for the car, feel free to share it.
Overall, they’re bulletproof little cars. A well-maintained example should serve you very well.

That’s not a terrible price for one, but you can get a much better car for $4000 in my opinion.
See if the timing belt has been done. For something that old, it will need to be replaced ASAP if it hasn’t been yet.

I was thinking the same thing about the price, the guy said he is not firm on it tho. My dad is a mechanic and is going to look over everything when we go look , what do you think is a fair price to offer him if we were to end up buying it?

Try to get it for $2000-$2500
take a real close look at the brake and fuel lines especially where they kick up near the rear wheelwell/gas tabk
