Need an opinion on 97 Civic

Hi, haven't been here in a while because I haven't owned a Civic since 2012 when I gave my 2004 Civic sedan to my son, which a deer conveniently ran into but he ended up getting a 2006 Civic coupe, which is a nice car.

Anyhow, my daughter just learned to drive and looking into getting a car for her and of course the Civic was a perfect learner plus a good car for a new drive.

I ran into this 1997 Civic Coupe EX, beautiful condition, original owner, was always garaged kept, he used it as a daily driver which is shown because of it's extremely high mileage, about 250,000 miles. He seems to have taken great care of it, only rust is light surface rust on the rear quarter panel, easy fix. But again extremely clean inside out, has a moonroof and original Honda civic sport alloy wheels. Everything works including AC. He's asking $1700 for it. Is that a reasonable asking price? Reason why I'm concerned is the high mileage and the last time he had the timing belt changed was at 125,000 miles, so it may be due for another one. So is $1700 a good price to pay for this or should I offer something a little lower, around $1200-$1300? I've seen 2000 and later models with less miles go for around $1200-$1400 but this is as mint of a 97 as you'll see, I can believe he kept it in the garage because he has a three car garage. But I won't be able to keep it in a garage because I can only fit two cars. My daughter would only drive it less than 10 miles a day to the train station, and occasionally over 10 miles or so on weekend outings, so it's not like going to be used for long trips of over 2 hours, more of just a in-town car. What do you guys think?

Re: Need an opinion on 97 Civic

I'd try to get it for $1000-$1200 because of the timing belt needing to be done, and mention to him that's why you're offering lower. If he might not come all the way down to your offer, but hopefully he'll come down a bit.

My gold 05 they were asking $3k, I offered $2500 because the ISB in the trans was making noise, they countered with $2700 and a set of snow tires on rims. Done.
