What is this white box? Honda Type S engine [solved]
Hi chaps..
Looking at a used Honda Type S. Engine bay looks nice and clean but I noted a couple of discrepancies with other engine pics I've seen.
Can anybody tell me what the white box is to the right (highlighted with red arrow)? Also is the tubing on the left hand side standard?
Some exterior touches suggest a previous owner has made some minor tweaks (I don't recall red calipers being standard. the wingmirrors are black body vs silver body) so I just want to check...
They look like aftermarket HID ballasts to me. If they were OEM, they'd be mounted to the frame close to the headlights, if not on the headlights themselves. Looks like the two connections on it is a 9006 input and possibly amphenol or d2s output, pretty standard for aftermarket HID ballasts. The high voltage warning is also kind of a giveaway on that one

White box is probably an aftermarket rust control module. They never work, just rip it out and oil spray it. That tubing might be normal, hard to see it in the picture and I'm not as familiar with the newer Hondas
I don't actually own the car yet it's a used car dealer offering that I'm evaluating.
If it is what you suggest and yea total BS - whilst it could be a preventative measure - I'm now inclined to have the car carefully vetted for rust that's been hidden etc - .

So would that be a good thing or bad thing? I'd rather the car was stock tbh but not fussed if it's not indicative of too much twiddling..
May go look at the car tomorrow. It looks nice on the exterior well here's a pic ;
So mirrors at odds with body colour aren't stock for a Type S are they? Nor the red calipers or privacy if I'm not mistaken...
It's got some service history of sorts... was owned by Honda as a demonstrator originally.. services stamped at 5, 21 (Honda) then 29, 36, 45, 50, 53k miles at independents... Seems like there should have been one around 13k
No other history but MOTs which are clean... except for "
Play in steering rack inner joint(s)
In 2015 and 2017... which wasn't present in more recent MOTs
The HID ballasts might not necessarily be a bad thing. If the previous owner did a retrofit or used HID bulbs with proper shielding (casper shields for H4 bulbs are the only ones I know of), you'll get plenty of light without blinding glare. However, (from my google search) the EDM civic hatchback uses H7/H11 low/high beams. If they're plug and play HID bulbs, switching back to stock should be no more than disconnecting those wires, removing excess components, and installing the proper bulbs.
As far as the calipers, they could simply be painted OEM calipers.
unfortunately, most of the information you'll find on this forum will be directed towards USDM market civics (and google searching doesn't really provide much -- at least on my end since most of what I found were USDM-oriented sales/information). We'll try our hardest to help out though!
