New to Civic need buying advice
New to Civic need buying advice
Hey everyone so I currently own a 14 Dodge dart gt manual a 09 VW rabbit 2.5 5 Speed and a couple old trucks.
we will be driving a every other weekend a total of 10 hours in the car drive time for my fiance's custody agreement with her ex. Knowing the dart is definitely not a high mileage car and isn't cheap or easy to get parts for I hate to rack up the miles on it. We also owe money on it so the value will tank driving it like that. The vw is a fun car I've owned it about a year it's got aftermarket exhaust and is a joy to drive but the gas mileage isn't great for its size and it's a 2dr it is also not the cheapest easiest car to get parts for in a pinch. I am selling it for 3600 and hoping to put about 4k total toward a Civic. I want dead nuts reliable a little bit fun to drive 4 doors and a manual trans. I want something I know can go the distance. Civics have a great reputation. I owned a 7th gen automatic 7 years ago was a good car but im hoping for 4k I could get a 8th gen in Missouri if not a 7th gen is also ok. What should I watch for in the 8th gen? What should I consider? What should I expect for around 4k in Missouri . Thanks everyone! Glad to be here.

I have read a little bit about that now. I didn't know if it was one of those deals where the internet blew it up bigger than it needed to be or if it was really a big deal. If the engine was replaced at Honda then I guess it's ok?
also was the entire engine replaced or did they just use the old parts but replace the block and re use the old head or?

From my understanding, the TSB only covered the block unless the head was discovered to be warped. So it's really a case-by-case basis kinda deal

Basically my fiance will drive the dart normally and when we go to meet her ex to swap we will take the Honda to keep the miles down on the dart which as many of you know the resale value is awful on. We have an older club cab truck for when we need all the seats (6) but that won't be most of the time. I plan on doing some work on the truck before the baby gets here is was my grandfathers before he passed so that truck will always be around. I replaced the front cab mounts on it a few months ago. Talk about a fun project (sarcasm)
I like the 8th gen but I'm definitely concerned about the engine block situation.
