how many revs per gear
how many revs per gear
HI!
I just bought a Honda civic sport 1.8 V-TEC 141 HP Petrol car, 2014 model! This is my first car, and I love to drive it! I have a few questions...
How low rpm can i stay in? is it ok to drive 50 mph at 1300 rpm in 5 th gear? the car always tells me to gear up
Is it ok to rev it to the rev limiter? I love to rev it up tp 5000 in 1st or 2nd gear, I love the sound of the engine! And last, what rpm should I usually stad in?

Re: how many revs per gear
1300 is a little too low in my option and apparently the car's as well, use 4th.
The rev limiter is there for a reason, to protect the engine, however, I wouldn't hang out there for long periods of time

Re: how many revs per gear
Check google to find the peak torque rpm point. Maximum power is at this point and shifting slightly after will give you the best performance.
The only reason to stay in gear climbing past peak torque is if you're in the final few seconds of a race and the amount of time lost, while shifting and off power, is greater than the time lost due to torque decline, after peak rpm.
......
And as long as you're not bouncing off the rev limiter, you should be fine.
