Tough Decision : Keep 2016 or Buy new 2025
Hello Everyone
Probably this question has been asked hundreds or time
My 2016 Civic LX : 260k
Needs a ball joint (if I do it probably both), 2 Front Struts. and of course winter tires
I know it's my money and choice etc but damn with the new cars regardless of make, prices vs what you get simply doesn't make sense anymore. That is reality. Just need some advice.
Canadian dollars
Total cost of everything is about just under 3k. If I do ball joints rather have them do both If one is gone the other will follow suit. I "hope" that will be the only problems for a while but at 260k anything could happen
I am looking at the new Honda Civic 2025 hybrid sport. My issue is for me to bring down monthly payments to a reasonable rate vs my wages at 23/hr I would need to place about 11k down plus they will give me 4k for trade-in for about 400/month. I know I will save about $80-100 on gas if the fuel rating are correct for the hybrid and 80% is highway 401 travel time.
Even Kia or Hyundai, I am still placing down 8k or 9k and only 2500 for trade-in for about same monthly (was curious how "low budget" cars priced out).
My 2016 still gets 5.9L/100k on the highway.
Quick note: During the winter season my hours are all over the place depended on snow. I can win or lose because of season.
Right now, if I was to get the 2025 new civic I would be starting in the negative with car payment right from get-go, This would apply to any new car regardless, and I would basically need to suck it up until spring. I will have enough savings to make through winter if I was going to go new. In reality, I would probably be 11k + (money lost during the winter is about 3k on average) so about 14k is gone.
At 260k, Is my civic at 260k worth placing money back into it? Over time, since I do add the extended warranty to my purchase, the new car "should" be better but I like the look the my civic though
Poor thing been through a lot and I am not used to running a car over 250k mark. I was going to trade in in 2021 but covid messed that up.
I had the extended warranty on my 2016, my car had AC issues and replaced 3 times thanks to the extended warranty then I got a 10 year warranty thing from Honda for the AC.
I am having pretty awful time having to make fair and balanced choice..
Thanks
