I've had my '01 Civic Sedan for about two years now. This is what I think.

Pros: Gas Mileage (very important), crash test ratings. Looks ok. No mechanical problems with car yet. Fun to drive in a go cart type of way. Lots of features for the price.

Cons: My particular Civic seems to be plagued with unique and distracting rattles around the driver's side door and center pillar area. I hear them all the time and am constantly reminded by them. I think the cause of the rattles are manufacturing related. I have tried some of the self-help recommendations from this board but they have either been to no avail or too difficult. One trip to the dealer was unsuccessful as well. I think it may be just best to leave well enough alone from this point on, rather than try to disassemble the car in search of these gremlins.

Future with Civic: I feel like I am ready to move on to something else but I have put up with the rattles for about a 1 1/2 year now so I think I could hack it at least until next summer with the car. The thing is that I had a bad experience with the stock tires last winter and would have to buy new tires before the winter which would involve an investment of $300-400. If I sink that kind of money into the car I will feel obligated to stick with it for another 2 or 3 years. I don't want to buy a new car right now since the Civic is only two years old, most of the 2003 cars that I'm interested in are sold out, and there aren't any decent incentives yet on 04 models. I don't expect any good incentives on the '04s that I like until next year, and if the economy improves, maybe not much of those. So it looks like the new tires are going to be a reality.

The good thing I feel about is the gas mileage, that should make the Civic a easy used car sell since I think we might be stuck with high gas prices for good, possibly.

Two more years with the rattles. What did I do to deserve this?

I have that friggin rattle coming forom the front center pillar area too. . Low speeds? just annoying as hell? Just keep taking it to the dealer. . They replaced my struts in front, but it's still here. They are putting on some engine supports soon to see if that'll help . if not, I'll take it back again, until it's fixed.. I have lots of rattles, but this is the only one that I'm worried about. . The others I know I can and will fix, or have caused myself. This one though. . ehhhh . .it's gotta go. But other than that. I'm just gonna keep my Vic, probably forever. I love this damn thing.

They moved my post to members ride's talk which means it will die a slow death, but I feel the same way you do. I am kinda attached to the thing and I have a nephew who I could pass it on to a few years from now, but I dunno. I guess I should just get the new tires and if I can't stand the car by next year, just chalk it up as a loss.
