Fuel economy reports?

So did we buy the car for looks? Performance? Fuel economy?
I bought mine for all of the above. I love the coupe. I think acceleration could be a little better, but it'll do - for the time being.

In the mean time, I've posted a photo of my dash, showing 52+ MPG.
I was amazed when I saw what the car could do. I would have been happy with 40 MPG!
That being said, the drive was no stops, about 25 miles after a fill-up, steady 57 MPH. Econ mode on, A/C off, all in 6th gear.

I've been told fuel economy is best around 45 MPH.

Schweeet!

Of course that is not combined mileage (city/highway) but.. that's impressive.

Re: Fuel economy reports?

I have a pic somewhere with something similar, but after 300 miles on the tank of 90% city driving, the average fuel economy will be anywhere between 28-33.

Re: Fuel economy reports?

I've gotten similar in my EX-T sedan.
Took a drive on the freeway after a fillup and my dash said I was averaging about 47.5.
Most of the trip the cruise control was set at 72 mph through Interstate 80 in eastern Ohio/western Pennsylvania.

The rest of that tank was city driving and the mileage dropped to about 38, which after only 2 fillups seems to be my average according to Fuelly:

Re: Fuel economy reports?

the drive was no stops,

....after a fill-up, steady .......
Under these conditions (steady 45-55 MPH) I've seen (or used to see) as high as 53 MPG in my car (12 Civic) on a regular trip to my sisters place an hour away from me.

But the mileage numbers dropped like a rock as soon as I hit stop and go traffic.

Nowadays, with the non-stock wheels and tires, at real world interstate speeds of 80-85 and higher..... my fuel economy is absolutely pathetic LOL

Re: Fuel economy reports?

2017 Civic Ex Sedan, no turbo, CVT.

I drive the highway to work every day.

On an average day I get 45 mpg.
On a day with a lot of traffic, around 40.
On the worst days (several miles of backup, 25 minute drive turns into 1.5 hours) I get about 35.

On a perfect day, with no traffic hold ups, I've gotten upwards of 55 mpg.

I've tracked every single fill-up for fuel economy and I'm about to install new tires. Should be interesting to see if my Yokohama's can best the stock tires. Will report back in a few weeks.

Road trip fuel economy in my 1.5T CVT (Sport trim). Average speed for that 215.8 miles was probably 80-85MPH (max speed was about 92MPH as that was the flow of traffic on I-15N in SoCal). This picture was taken during a long uphill (about 4%-5% grade incline), There was another 4-5% grade incline about 50 miles before that, accompanied with mostly level road.
A/C was on with average temps starting at 90F and about 60% of the trip in the 110-115F range.
Maintenance minder had 10% oil life remaining.
Fuel type was Shell 91 octane.

You never said what the car is? It could be anything from a Fit to a CR-V. CVT or manual? Hybrid or not?

Re: Fuel economy reports?

For one thing, please realize that Honda cars, since they came out with gas mileage estimators are much on the optimistic side. My 2015 Honda fit is not too bad. If it says 40 mpg for a trip it is really about 38 to 38.5 mpg. My 2018 Civic EX-T sedan with turbo recently claimed it gave me 42.7 mpg but I had reset a trip meter upon the previous fill-up and after crunching the math the old fashioned way the true mileage was 41.1 mpg, a good bit off I'd say! But I was not complaining about 41.2 mpg any old way....LOL. From my experience, deduct about 1 to 1.7 mpg from what the car claims and you'll be pretty close.

Re: Fuel economy reports?

I am getting on average about 5.4liters per 100km. Yes, that's Canada and I have a 2018 hatch lx manual. This is mainly done by hwy driving, and it goes up when I am in city driving so far the max I have seen is 6.4.

Re: Fuel economy reports?

I have two fairly new Hondas ( 2015 Fit and 2018 Civic ) and the gas mileage estimators are not very accurate, they are always optimistic but about 1 to 2 mpg. I have done dozens of comparisons using the old calculation method ( much more accurate ) and then compared to the mileage claim shown on my dashboard. I have never had the mileage estimators show lower mileage than actual, they always show on the high side.

Re: Fuel economy reports?

Just wanted to report an update here, and see if I should be concerned or not.
I have noticed on my last 2 fill ups that the mileage is dropping. The last tank I got 660kms, this current tank I might be able to get 600kms. Now, where I live (Ontario Canada) we are getting into colder weather, so I understand that mileage will drop. However, I don't remember it dropping this much from last year. Currently I am getting 6.5km/100L. The temp this past week has been around 2-7 degrees. We have seen a couple days where the temp was -17. The car is a 2018 hatch lx.
Thanks guys.
