Almost had a pretty big accident...

Well, this is a weird story with a good ending. I was driving up to Maggie's house (my g/f) going North on 495. It was raining/snowing; I guess you could call it sleet. Maybe freezing rain? Who knows... I was driving 80mph. Yeah, kinda stupid.

I was following this guy that was going about 72mph and I wanted to pass him. I couldn't. Then I see this tree in the left lane. The tip of it was shaped like a cross. I remember thinking, "Hmm... Better slow down, this could be a sign.". I slowed down and put some distance betwean him and me.

Then he turns into the middle lane and I'm thinkin', "Ha, screw the sign; I'm going for it.". I accelerate and as I pass him I see cars stopped ahead of me. I hit the brakes and I see that it's not enough. I'm not slowing down enough to stop in time. I hit my hazards and I step on the brakes even more.

Then the car starts sliding to the left. There's no guard rail, but there are signs. I don't want to hit anything, so I let off the brakes and turn back to the right. I turned too much and started sliding to the right, so I turn to the left again. Then I fall into a spin and I spin all the way around.

I was braking the whole time and I was trying to avoid cars by turning the wheel a certain way. I actually don't remember exactly what I did. I stopped though. About 20 feet in front of the car in front of me. Sideways. My knees were shakin' slightly, but I made it. Okay, I promise not to do stupid stuff like that ever again. LOL

Re: Almost had a pretty big accident...

Yeah I went skidding into a intersection friday night. We had a ice storm up here in the springfield area. My tires are summer only, and not rated for snow, so I had ZERO traction. In spots that you could do going 40 in snow tires, or reg tires, I was going 15 max, anything faster and my tires would spin.

yeah, your weather up there sucked. i was driving up 84 and masspike on friday night, and it was drizzling pretty much through all of CT, so my wipers were on. then im MA all of a sudden my window starts getting this film of on it, and im thinking what the hell is this? cause it didnt make sense to be salt cause there wasnt any snow and the ground wasnt wet...and then i stopped to go the the bathroom and i see the window is like frozen over w/ a film of ice. only in MA...

but besides that, i had no problems driving. i was going at about 80-90....no problems w/ traction or anything. but then again, i dont jam on the brakes at 80mph when theres sleet on the ground...lol...you got off lucky grey! no turbo of yours could have saved you from that one. hahahahaha

You need to settle your *** down. I seem to recall a few times now where you've had a close call. Dont be getting yourself killed.
