Emissions testing in MA....I have a ?

Just checking to see if im wrong here. A while back I remember the guy I used to get inspections from telling me that all Civic's after 96 dont need the sniffer hookup. They just plug something into the car buy the fuse box (im not sure what its called) and if ur car doesnt have any warning codes that pop up (like a cel, etc.) than u pass, if a code shows up, then its a fail. Ive been thinking about this a lot lately and I should have just called someone but figured I would post about it on here. The reason being is that I want to put on the Megan Test Pipe(eliminates the cat) and use the mech sim diy(tricks the car to not throw a cel) and I dont want to have to worry about taking it on and off at all. I remember never having to do the sniffer with my 01 EX so can anyone confirm the truth to this?

....i know they only test emissions every other year, but i still dont want to have to take the damn thing off.

Cars 4 years or newer don't have emissions test, thereafter its every two years for emissions.... Safety is done every year.

I never heard of the hooking into the ecu, but my buddy did get rejected for a 3 year old car with the "check engine" light on. We unplugged the battery, then he drove back and the light was out and he got the sticker... lol

Also, I believe part of the safety portion is a visual cat check...

ok....well, its not that they plug it into the ecu......i think its plugged into somewhere by the fuse box under the steering wheel.

and i dont have a catback, just an aftermarket midpipe and soon this test pipe so they're not gonna notice that.

thanks for the input.....so basically, emmissions will be first tested in 2008? thats cool....now i know why they never tested my 01 EX
