Vacationing in Maine...
Ok, guys, id like some help/info/advice/etc...
My girlfriend and I are considering places to tak a 4-7 day vacation, and Maine, is one of the states we are considering.
What i would like from you is some recommendation for places to go/things to see in Maine. There's obviously Bar Harbor and its currounding "attractions", but what else is there?
Also, what is a good time of year to visit? I would like to go in the fall or winter(i dont mind snow), are there better times of year to consider? what would you suggest?
Thanks guys!

the only 3 places i actually like in maine are: portsmouth, kennebunk (or kennebunk port), and sunday river (ski area).
portsmouth is a hippy kind of town right on the border of new hampshire and maine. its cool, but i dont know how much there is to do around there for more than a day or 2, besides hiking and driving around the area that is. the town is quaint, but its maine, dont expect much. haha this is a pretty good destination any time of year. i went with my ex in the winter right before new years.
kennebunk/kennebunk port - this is more like a cape cod kind of atmosphere, sort of...a but more plain tho (maine afterall). this is where the bush family compound is. its on the ocean, and there are lots of beaches. best time to go is late spring to early fall. its too late now, cause the season is over. my friends grandfather used to have a huge house over there so we used to go up there like once a year around 4th of july or something. it was a lot of fun.
sunday river - its a ski area about 1 hour away from kennebunk. you ski there, they probably have ski lodges for rent, and other winter activities. i dont really know cause we just skied there. best time to go is winter, but be careful not to get stuck in the snow. its a PIA to drive while its snowing, dangerous also, and if you get stuck up there who knows when youll get out. that area gets a lot of snow.
i think of all those places, sunday river is the most northern part of maine ive been to...and its like central maine i think. hahaha...my friend, who was from there, said that anymore north is hick country and should be avoided. no offense to anyone, im just repeating. haha
if i were you, id also look into vermont. there are a TON of cottages or lodges to rent over there. lots of woods and lakes and ski mountains. its pretty much like maine, but closer. best time to go, any time really. its beautiful any season.

I live in Maine. Let me see. This time of year things are getting to be pretty slow along the coast. But still fun to see cause nobody is around. All the tourists are gone so walks on the beach, Saco Beach are somewhat nice (cold at times) and even romantic. Booth Bay is one of my favorites, visit many art galleries. Portland is a cool city to visit. Shopping at the mall, hmmm.......I live near Portland, possibly meet up. I'll post again....I'll ask my GF where she would go. Bar Harbor is nice...long trip tho from the border. I would go up the coast and visit all the towns, shops, galleries. That would be cool and eat some Lobster....yummie.
